We had a great overall stay here and were thrilled by the room sizes and the beach feel and look of the hotel. I like how they try to fog the grounds for mosquitos every night and give out a notice. I also like the staff in general, polite and friendly. Something that did surprise us was when my son had a bad cut on his foot from the edge of a tile in the red pool. I called front desk enquiring about a first aid kit and they said they'd send someone up, but 40 minutes later and two more calls, it was established they did not have one or any band aides. I would not have minded but at least expected someone to call back and let us know that they dont keep a first aide kit, just as a simple courtesy. I stopped the bleeding myself and it was fine. Coincidentally I did meet another family that said their 2 yr old had got a bad cut from the tiles by the shower area so perhaps this can be looked into. My son's cut was when swimming from the Jacuzzi area and into the big pool. Otherwise, we loved the breakfast, the view and were amazed that on Easter Sunday not only was there an egg painting class put on but a very fun Egg Hunt too. The man leading it was really lovely with the little ones and it was a perfect way to end our stay. Thanks!

Our room was small but the hotel is very nice and the location is very good.. the chef was amazing and the staff were professional also Pradepp is super helpful we couldn't ask for more thank u for a pleasant stay

Nice clean beach and pool! Food was decent! Restaurant staff was inattentive until we mentioned it and then they were attentive. Rooms were clean too but bathroom can use some improvements but was decent as well! For the price and location we would come back!

It's the best in the region. I enjoyed my stay at this hotel in 2016 April. Specially i participated in the fastival activities with lot's of fun. This year as stayed in benthota i wished i stayed at clamanda i regret for missing the festival activities?

Comfortable hotel right on the beach. Room was clean. Infinity lap pool was very nice as is the other pool. Restaurant next to be beach was great. As it was a quiet time, the food choice was limited but still ok. Breakfast choice was good. Staff were attentive and friendly. I enjoyed my stay.

A resort with daily morning yoga sessions for starters, the beachside location is key. Another huge plus is the excellent breakfast buffet with fresh cut fruits, your choice of eggs, local Sri Lankan options and more. Rooms are sizable and clean with the ocean just a few steps away. Shops and restaurants are all within walking distance, and tuk-tuks are readily available to transport you to Galle and other nearby areas. The only issue I had was really with the third party booking service that failed to communicate properly with the hotel when we needed to modify our stay.

Stayed here 3 nights to relax after tour around Sri Lanka. Room was really nice overlooking pool but not noisy. Had also facilities you need, good air con and Wifi. Replenished daily with bottles of water, tea coffee etc. Bathroom so big, nice and clean. Staff very helpful, breakfast buffet was good, big choice. Didn’t eat in the evening here as wanted to try the numerous restaurants along the beach front. Drinks were a reasonable price, you sign for drinks then pay at the end of your stay.

A simple resort in a perfect location, good food and clean comfortable rooms at a reasonable price. The staff are fantastic and aim to please at every opportunity. One of the few places I would definitely visit again

We are just back from two weeks in the Calamander, sandwiched in between five star luxury hotels in Colombo. First impression of this hotel was that Tripadvisor in fact did it a disservice. Most of the pictures I looked at showed dark beach, etc but in fact this is a bigger place than expected and in fact was really good and better than its rating shows. Their website could do with improvement. The beach is huge and we hit the beach sun beds daily. I never thought I would use the glass pool which we used few times a day to cool down. Its a really short walk to the main drag in Unawatuna (turn right onto beach and down little lane next door). The room was great, service great and it had plenty of facilities. Breakfast was good but otherwise sadly food was terrible. Either cold or microwaved. Loads of restaurants within 100 yards though so wasnt an issue. Bar was good and sundowners very special. The famour red swimming pool was weird but only was in it once. Even though we were there at peak, always plenty of room for everyone. On last day I had my bad nicked at sunbed when I left it unattended. My own fault but just a warning as it is a public beach. We loved the beach and the sea - you develop a technique to get in and out with your swimming togs intact! Great dive centres next door and Pearl Divers owned by hotel Beach boys were really friendly and helpful. I'm a total five star snob but definitely would return. (We came by seaplane from Kandy which was cool). Big thumbs up.

We stayed here with another family for 4 nights and it was the best hotel during our 3 weeks in sri lanka. Best NYE show we've had in asia within the last 7 years! Great beach with a football and beach ball court, getting a 14 player game within 5min. Bar and restaurant quality/price/speed ratio was excellent. Nice pools, good ac. Wifi working good only near the restaurant and the breakfast coffee was terrible (as everywhere in sri lanka). Cleanup was quite random, on our last night they came after sunset.

Spent a few nights there last week and the room was lovely! Staff were lovely and the pool is pretty cool! But the best part was the bar and staff there. We made friends with them very quickly and they were always on hand and caring, I highly recommend staying there and enjoying the services they provide! Oh and it's right next to the beach with is amazing????I will definitely be going back there!

Very close to the ocean, nice view, comfortable rooms and very nice staff. Very nice bar and restaurant with a good menu. Due to some noise from the entrance repair they offered us free lunch during our 3 day stay. It gave a good relaxing ending to our honeymoon in Sri Lanka.

Service...we were spoiled beyond. Thank you gentelmen for taking such good care of us both. Room... wow... lush ... i absolutely loved the bathroom cosy chair, even a candle and books, great lighting for makeup, and the shower was the best. well stocked mini bar (well utilized,great tea), kettle worked fine ... lovely large closet and room enough for both suitcases to be up and away which I find most hotels only service one suitcase the other ends up a trip hazard. Cant praise it enough, we were very comfortable. Location in relation to our spa visit was just a short walk which we desperately needed after our flight and journey to the hotel... 3 hours of pampering and our cooking class was just across the road ...everything we needed was within walking distance...or tuk tuk ride away. liked the best .... the staff liked the least.... the lizard ... hahha ... i just kept walking

We were in Unawatuna recently, right when the terrorist bombings happened. The staff at Calamander was great, helped us and gave us advice. Besides this, the rooms are simple but nice. We had great ocean views, tuk tuks are right outside the door to take you anywhere. I also was able to walk 5 minutes down the beach and take a couple of scuba dives - super convenient! The breakfast is wonderful, too. Full Sri Lankan and so many choices.

We had a lovely experience in this charming beach resort. It is located right next to the beach. You can hear the waves from your room and some rooms offer a ocean view. The restaurant is located at the beach side. We have enjoyed our dinner on the beach. The food was amazing! I've had the best Sri Lankan food here. They also serve Western food, but I am a fan of the South Asian cuisine. At night they light the torches are lit and they set up the BBQ on the beach. The ambiance really brings you in vacation mode. Breakfast is good as well! My favorite was the stringhoppers and pol sambol! They prepare fresh hoppers, but also have fresh croissants and pain au chocolat. Our kids are very difficult eaters, but they ate like never before! Cornflakes, bread, hard boiled eggs, fresh juices and they prepare fresh fruit on demand. This has been my favorite place during our 30 days here in Sri Lanka! I would recommend it to everybody, especially those couples who come with kids. The pool is absolutely stunning. We've been in the pool until 8 o clock with the kids. The water is still warm and at night the lights create an amazing colour. They have lounge chairs and play lounge music during the day. Rooms are comfortable: AC, good beds, the best pillows, clean, good showers and nice towels. The staff is very friendly and makes sure all your needs are satisfied. They serve great cocktails and fresh King coconut. We cannot wait to visit Calamander again!

This is an amazing hotel. Right on the beach, you can eat and drink with amazing views of the ocean and sunrises and sunsets. Very clean and, as with all of Sri Lanka, the staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was very nice and they provided us with a breakfast when we got up early to go wale watching. At the end of a long day and drive from Colombo with multiple stops for all the tourist’s stuff we arrived at Calamander Hotel, Unawatuna Beach. We checked in and were given a huge room with an attached toilet of royal proportions! The toilet had a comfortable chair and books to read too! The next morning we were treated to an outstanding breakfast buffet with all choices possible..! Sinhalese, Continental, etc. An amazing spread! We had to unfortunately leave due to a previous booking elsewhere.. Will certainly come back soon!

Sanmira hotel is a very nice hotel, very good accommodation, clean inside the room, good pool, and very very delicious food and the sorrounding is very clean,and the management very friendly person, so that we will always come back all pilipino in sanmira hotel...thank you very much.

Stayed a whole week at this lovely friendly resort with all the best facilities and proximity to the beach.The room cleaning was fantastic by ajit and the reception very efficiently by Jagath. Rooms in the new wing very spacious and have a nice view of the red pool and the beach.Breakfast quite impressive matching that of five star standard. Kindly look into the seafood prices at the restaurant.. will surely be back if we come back to srilanka

Everything about Laras place was 15/10. Lovely host, amazing views, Top position. Although hill can be a little challenging.But not an issue, take some breaks on the way up or get a tuk tuk. We booked for two nights only, but stayed for three.

Rooms were spacious and new. Very clean. Food was really nice. Staff was very nice and helpful. Restaurant was nicely located. Food was excellent. Have a high value for money. Property is just right next to the beach.

The reception is helpfull. if there is something they fix it. The restaurant is great. I think that if you want to eat something you will find it in the restaurant. Friendly personal in the place. The rooms are perfect, there are 2 swimmingpools, we used the round one. Also towels and beds to lay is there. We had a good time here.

We had an excellent stay at the Calamander. Amazing views, lovely room, really friendly helpful staff. Would visit again. Highly recommend. Food service was good enjoyed breakfast and rice and curry for dinner... every night. Kids loved it.

We stayed in July with 2 teenagers. We all liked the hotel alike as a family. Rooms are clean and spacious. In fact better than the 5 star hotel we stayed. Had a nice sea view. I had my morning tea in bed looking at the sea. How nice! Tea coffee is provided if you need a cuppa in the morning. Bathroom is clean and well stocked. We invited few family members for dinner. They all thought good is very good. Had a verity of food (local and other) as buffet. Breakfast is the best. Food and beverages staff is very friendly and courteous. Definitely recommend. Value for money.
