Sahaja Yoga Meditation – What is it?

True Meditation

We’ve all heard about meditation but sometimes are not sure how to learn it or what to expect. There are many forms of meditations being offered which can also make it difficult to know which true method one should try.

True meditation is best understood as a state of mental silence or ‘thoughtless awareness’ in which one is fully alert and aware but free of the unnecessary thoughts or worries that lead to many of life’s day to day stresses. This state of silence occurs spontaneously when one learns how to focus on the experience of the present moment, leading to a state of peace and calm. Through a simple process, known as Self-Realisation (kundalini awakening), this meditative state can be quickly established, maintained and, most importantly, enjoyed!

Self-Realisation

Self-Realisation occurs when the dormant kundalini energy (which is located at the base of the spine in the sacrum area) is awakened and travels through the subtle energy centres within the body.

Sahaja Yoga meditation is a method of true meditation which awakens the state of thoughtless awareness through Self-Realisation.The meditation does not evolve any physical exercises or postures but a simple meditation method, which was established by Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi in 1970. This meditation practice has resulted in a breakthrough in the evolution of human awareness allowing everyone to experience peace and joy.

Shri Mataji has spread her techniques to over 100 countries, free of charge, to everyone who wishes to learn her simple methods.Through the Sahaja Yoga meditative state, one is able to bypass the constant bombardment of thoughts in the brain. These thoughts can cause stress and emotional upset if we allow them to dominate our attention. In addition, one begins to feel sensations on the finger tips and feet which correspond to energy centres (chakras) in the body. These sensations could consist of heat in the case of a problem in an energy centre, or coolness when there are no problems in that centre.
