Yoga is a science and an art - a means to bring about a positive shift in mind and body towards Svastha - a state of total well-being.A general Yoga class with Paula typically includes yoga postures with proper breathing and awareness; breathing techniques to bring clarity to the mind; and guided relaxation (overall rest and rejuvenation).
Paula has a particular interest in Yogic Mindfulness as taught by A.G. Mohan and Indra Mohan, of Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda. All limbs of Yoga are oriented towards bringing about a calm, clear, light, balanced mode of mind – a state called sattva in Sanskrit. In order to make positive changes in the mind, we must first modify behaviour patterns relating to our minds, senses, bodily actions, breath, and food. This leads to good health and peace in time.
I have been practising Yoga since 1994 and teaching on the Gold Coast since 2000, completing my initial teacher training with the International Yoga Teachers Association, Inc. under the mentorship of Laurene Hassard.
I have attended workshops and training with many well-known teachers since then, however a meeting in 2013 proved a turning point when I attended a weekend workshop presented by A.G. and Indra Mohan.
A.G. Mohan was a direct student of Sri T. Krishnamacharya for 18 years and Indra Mohan is one ofthe few people to have received a post-graduate diploma in yoga from Krishnamacharya himself. The Mohans founded the Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda organisation to faithfully transmit the teachings of Krishnamacharya.
Now, a long-standing student of the Mohans, Vina Shah of Svastha Yoga,Sydney, guides and supports me as a teacher of Svastha Yoga and in my personal practices. My studies continue with the Mohans during their annual visits to Australia, and I am also completing Yoga Therapy training with their son, Dr. Ganesh Mohan.
A.G. and Indra Mohan have a depth of knowledge and understanding that only years of practice and dedication to the path can bring, and I feel incredibly fortunate that they continue to visit Australia to inspire, teach and assist Yoga practitioners to bring about personal transformation through Yoga.
