Welcome to Diamond Way Buddhism Hong Kong
Diamond Way Buddhism is part of the Karma Kagyu school, one of the three ‘old’ schools of Tibetan Buddhism. This school puts special focus on Buddhist meditation practice and we offer regular guided meditations at our centre in Sheung Wan, Hong Kong. Several times each year different Buddhist teachers visit us for public lectures and in-depth weekend study courses.
The Hong Kong Diamond Way Buddhist centre has been offering Buddhist teachings and meditations for almost a decade. The people of Hong Kong have a longstanding interest in Buddhism. In each culture they appear, the teachings of the Buddha find the form that best suits them. One can compare them to a diamond: on a red cloth it shines red, on a blue cloth it looks blue; regardless, the diamond stays the same. Without losing their essence, the teachings have adapted to the cultural conditions of different societies and times. The Buddha’s highest teachings were first transmitted in for 1,500 years and then for another 1,000 years in Tibet. Today, the timeless view of the Diamond Way (skt. Vajrayana) and its methods are more and more appealing to educated and independent people around the world.
In Tibetan, meditation is called gom. This literally means to practice and this is exactly what Buddhist meditation is about: one practices to calm mind and rests in its own nature. Buddhists work with two types of meditation, calming meditation and insight meditation. These can be either specific techniques, which may be practiced separately, or they may be combined into the same practice.
In Diamond Way Buddhism, meditations contain aspects of calming and insight meditation. Here one meditates on light and energy forms of the different Buddhas. The methods used awaken the enlightened qualities inherent in oneself. By using body, speech and mind during meditation, the methods work with our totality and lead one to enlightenment. This state is the recognition of the nature of mind and one is fearless, joyful and actively compassionate.
