About Dhamma Arunachala Vipassana Meditation Centre

Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. It was taught in India more than 2500 years ago as a universal remedy for universal ills, i.e., an Art of Living.

The technique of Vipassana Meditation is taught at ten-day residential courses during which participants learn the basics of the method, and practice sufficiently to experience its beneficial results. There are no charges for the courses - not even to cover the cost of food and accommodation. All expenses are met by donations from people who, having completed a course and experienced the benefits of Vipassana, wish to give others the opportunity to also benefit.

Wonderful experience. This is a meditation center for the 10 days course. The food and rooms are exactly what is needed to conduct the course in great conditions. The site and environment is lovely with full of different birds flying, eating, mating and singing around. Some lovely squirrels and small iguanas too. Don't bring food or if you do, make sure that the smell and noise won't bother people around (peace and noble silence), that it won't decay and above all, that is in a tight and impermeable container. You are in the middle of nature and animals land, we all share. Mouse will come and take their share, and destroy bags in the process, just be aware. If you bring your own toiletries, makes sure it's organic and non chemical as they have a reuse of the water in place for the plants. If you don't have any, you'll be able to buy some the day 0, during registration.

Dhamma Arunachala Vipassana center is the right place to practice the technique if you want to stay in contact with the nature. The environment is full of life and the center is fully eco-friendly and zero-waste oriented. Of course this means that if you haven't lived before in a "countryside" place it will be a bit uncomfortable at the beginning to adjust to some stuffs, but it is definitely worth it according to my opinion. The staff was helpful and the teacher patiently helped me when I had questions. I advice you to bring a sleep bag or a bed sheet with a cushion if you have the opportunity. Thank you for the taught experience, but really useful!

Don't have a second opinion if you are planning to visit this place. They serve very healthy Verity of millets based breakfast and lunch. Pagoda and individual cells are very spacious and calm for uninterrupted settings. 4/2 wheelers are not allowed in the campus so plan for either bus or auto. One caveat is avoid visiting in summer.

It was probably the 10 hardest days of my life so far but it was worth it. I learned sooooooooo much about myself and life. I feel stronger than ever and it was probably one of the most experiences of my life.

Experienced real bliss here. Thank God I attended this course in this lifetime. About the place: This is located few kms far from main thirvanamalai. If you are travelling by car with a GPS assist, you should not have any issues finding it. There are buses available here too. The place is very remotely located, so remote there is hardly any sound or air or even light pollution. Dont expect that you will be having a five star stay. One of the initial objectives of the course is to strip your ego off you. So you don't get to have a say on what you are going to eat or the coziness of your bed. Having said that, this center has done a good job in providing the basic needs. Do bring full track pants especially full cotton ones and bring 10 of them if you don't want to wash them everyday. Ensure that you inform to all your relatives and friends before starting to this place as you are going to be fully cut from the outside world. And maintain your silence for 10 days irrespective of the circumstances and speak only with the assistant teacher for getting clarity on the process. About the practice: I have done many different techniques of meditation for many years but this one tops the list because of its simplicity and result orientedness. One can easily measure the progress assuming they are able to deliberately invest each minute of the ten days they are here and at least 2 hours everyday after that. This is not a practice where you can just come and chill like a vacation. It is both mentally and physically challenging. Mentally because you have to concentrate close to 10 hours day in day out. Physically because you have to sit those 10 hours with your back straight.
