Synergy Yoga & Pilates first opened in August 2012. Monique wanted to create a studio where people could feel at home, part of a community and offer a wonderful retreat like space that offers over 17 classes per week, a unique and personalised service. She recognised that there was a need to create a studio and a community that offered something for everyone, more yoga and pilates classes than you would see on a gym timetable and a professional space that ensured safety and attention to people’s individual health and wellness needs. At Synergy Yoga & Pilates – a boutique yoga and pilates studio with a focus on personalised service and attention – we offer a range of classes and services that suit every BODY. SYNERGY YOGA & PILATES is a way of life creating MIND BODY HEALTH, Education, Retreats, Workshops and Wellness. We endeavour to provide local Community Members with a unique experience in Mind, Body, Health and Wellness. All instructors are accredited in either Yoga/Pilates/ Fitness Instruction. Synergy Yoga & Pilates aims to provide wellness programs that suit all shapes , sizes and ages.Classes are smaller and less intimidating, more personalized than the standard gyms, instructors ensuring safety, precision, anatomical alignment with a focus on protecting and strengthening the physical aspects of the body. All yoga classes offer a component of yoga nidra and relaxation, focus is also on pranayama breathwork, concentration, meditation at the beginning and the end of each class to enhance a mindful practice. Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center

Brahma Kumaris Australia was established in Sydney in 1975 after a young traveller came across this spiritual wisdom in London and brought it back to his homeland. A few years later, Dr Nirmala Kajaria from the Brahma Kumaris in was asked to base herself in Sydney as the BK senior teacher, while the young traveller moved to South America to open a BK Centre. Meanwhile a second BK student returned home from London to establish a centre in, Melbourne.

Since these early days, the Brahma Kumaris have shown a solid commitment to having representation in major cities across Australia. Brahma Kumaris Australia has centres in every state, as well as three spiritual retreat venues. Our National Coordinating Office is based at Five Dock in Sydney’s inner west.

More than 100 meditation teachers and volunteers take care of all programmes, administration, publicity, catering and maintenance at each of the Brahma Kumaris’ centres across Australia. This dedicated team works tirelessly for the benefit of their neighbourhood and strive to be samples of how to lead a balanced life using meditation as the foundation. These volunteers are regular students who are committed to supporting these venues. Many of them also have paid jobs and contribute financially to the ongoing maintenance of these places as another expression of their service to the community.

Sanctuaries of Peace

Brahma Kumaris Australia events are offered in our centres, retreat centres and class locations. Sometimes community rooms, libraries and other public places are used to reach local communities. Some have been able to provide this service in their own homes, some in community rooms. This trend has expanded the geographical opportunities available to would-be meditators in various city suburbs. The teachers in class locations are experienced long-term BK meditation practitioners and regular students and offer the same standard of events as those offered at our centres.

Meditation Shop

Open six days a week, our Meditation shop in Fitzroy (Melbourne) offers an oasis to escape from a hectic day or a busy mind. Passersby may drop in during working hours and on weekends. Meditations are available on request in this peaceful setting. There is no fee. Relax and unwind while browsing meditation books, CDs and DVDs and pick up the latest information on upcoming events. There is also a bookshop at Five Dock.

National Coordinating Office

In keeping with the growing demand for our community programs after many years in Ashfield, we recently sold that building as well as the Leichhardt premises, and purchased the former Inner West Courier office space in Five Dock, Sydney for our National Coordinating Office. All BK administration activities for Australia are managed from this location. The Board of Directors and the National Co-ordinator/Chief Executive are also based there.

Regional Coordinating Office

Australia played a prominent role in opening BK centres across the Asia-Pacific region and continues to support activities in the region. The Regional Office, also based in Five Dock, acts as the regional communications hub and provides spiritual sustenance through BK senior teachers, who visit countries in the region regularly.

Dhamma Bhumi Vipassana Meditation Center

Dhamma Bhumi means Dhamma soil or Dhamma land Buildings and gardens The land includes over 40 acres of flowering heath and eucalyptus forest on the edge of an escarpment in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales. Just outside the town of Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, within walking distance of the railway station, it has excellent rail and road connections with Sydney. It also has great natural beauty, commanding magnificent views of the cliffs opposite and valley below. Its extensive gardens and ponds attract many native birds and animals, including some very colourful rosellas, and sometimes ducks and wallabies. It is the oldest Vipassana centre in Australia, and the second to be founded outside. Mr S. N. Goenka conducted the first two ten-day courses there in late 1983, and a number of other courses in subsequent years. There is now a continuous program of Vipassana courses, with two or more typically held every month. Facilities comprise a new meditation hall for 300 students, 36 meditation cells, a smaller hall for 40 people, and indoor accommodation for 110, including 16 single rooms with attached bathrooms.

Vipassana Meditation Center

Dhamma Pabha (which means “radiance” or “glow of Dhamma”) is nestled in a forest in the slopes of Mt Dromedary, forty minutes by road from Hobart. The tall trees and the bushland setting are far from the noises of civilisation, trains or traffic, the only sounds being those of the native wildlife. After twelve years of holding courses at hired campsites, the first course was held at Dhamma Pabha in December 1994 using temporary facilities. From that start, facilities have been improved and include a warm and comfortable meditation hall, kitchen and office. The current building project is to complete single-room student accommodation. Despite Tasmania’s isolation and small population, a dedicated group of Vipassana students are building a peaceful sanctuary of Dhamma in the forest there.

Buddha House

Our History

Buddha House is a center for Buddhist study and meditation, located in the suburb of Magill, Adelaide, South Australia, and is affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition (FPMT) a global network of over 160 centers including monasteries, nunneries, publishing houses, healing centers, hospices, and meditation centers.

In the beginning

As a result of a visit to Adelaide by a Tibetan Lama in 1981 Lama Thubten Yeshe (and in 1982 Lama Zopa Rinpoche) a need for a place to study and meditate became apparent. From the humble beginnings of meeting at a student house, the center now offers a comprehensive program of teachings and practices, providing the South Australian community with the conditions for the study and practice of the Gelug Tradition of Tibetan Buddhism.

We are an entirely volunteer-run organization without any paid staff. All facility fees are used to support course offerings, teachers, and the buddha meditation center. We have a wide-ranging program from Learn to Meditate classes for beginners, to advanced classes on Buddhist philosophy and practice.

Buddha House provides authentic teachings by Tibetan Buddhist practitioners who have received their education at Kopan Monastery, Nepal, and Sera Je Monastic University,. This provides us with the unique opportunity to be a part of an unbroken lineage of spiritual teachings. In addition, Buddha House is a vehicle for people to engage in compassionate action toward others and an environment where the real issues in our lives and in society can be looked at and acted upon – where theory and practice can be brought together and nurtured as a living whole.

Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre

Welcome to the Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre website. We provide facilities for the teaching and practice of satipaṭṭhāna vipassanā or insight meditation in the tradition of the late Venerable Mahāsi Sayādaw of Burma.

Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre seeks its inspiration in the Buddhist Theravadan tradition and aims to develop an Australian Buddhism. Courses are taught by visiting teachers, including monks and nuns from Burma and other countries.

Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre is located in a tranquil setting in the small town of Medlow Bath in the City of Blue Mountains, two hours by train from Sydney and adjoining the vast World Heritage Area. The town has an altitude of over 1000 metres and enjoys a bracing mountain climate year round.

Medlow Bath Sitting Group

There is a weekly group meditation at BMIMC in Medlow Bath that meets on Wednesday evenings on nights that retreats are not scheduled. Several local supporters who are experienced meditators share responsibility for leading the group.

The sessions are from 7pm to 8pm and the format is sitting meditation with occasionally a short reading at the end of the sit. There are paths outside for walking meditation if people wish to walk instead of,or as well as,sitting.

If you are unfamiliar with this type of meditation practice, please contact BMIMC and some guidance before the session can be arranged. Visitors are welcome to stay for a cuppa and chat after the sitting if they wish.

The Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre is owned and managed by a non-profit association called the Buddha Sasana Association of Australia Incorporated (ABN 11 005 353 218).

The Buddha Sasana Association of Australia was founded in 1981 and incorporated as an association in 1986.

Around 1992, the association decided to establish its Centre at 25 Rutland Road, Medlow Bath with the aim of providing organised instruction on the practice and theory of Buddhist meditation on a regular and continuing basis. Since then, teaching at the Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre has been provided by qualified Buddhist monks, nuns and lay people to small groups of up to 20 students. All students who attend a course at the Centre are monitored by one or more teachers who will offer appropriate guidance and support to assist students in their understanding of the meditation practice and related Buddhist Meditation teachings.

The association is managed by a committee of up to 8 members who meet at least 4 times a year to oversee the Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centreoperations and development. The day to day work of Blue Mountains Insight Meditation Centre is carried out by a part time co-ordinator, resident care taker and retreat co-ordinator with support from numerous volunteers.

ALOKA ~ The light of wisdom

Like a lamp that illuminates the darkness, by kindling wisdom in our own hearts we can inspire others to do the same. As we develop greater inner peace and contentment, we can also benefit those around us and the world at large.

The Australian Buddhist Mission Inc. (ABM) was established in 1986 to support Venerable Mahinda’s efforts to promote the knowledge, practice and realisation of the Buddha’s teachings (the Dhamma) in Australia. Since its establishment, ABM has endeavoured to make the Dhamma accessible not only to the Buddhist community but also to the wider Australian community.

ABM conducts a variety of activities at Aloka, including meditation retreats, Dhamma sessions, workshops and annual events such as Vesak. It is our wish that the light of wisdom may shine in the hearts of many.
