Fung Loy Kok Inst Of Taoism St John
The Fung Loy Kok Institute of Taoism (FLK) observes the unified teachings of the three religions of Confucianism, Buddhism and Taoism. Its mission is to deliver all from suffering, both the living and the dead, by pursuing the way of community service, rituals and ceremonies, and the cultivation of body and mind.
Fung Loy Kok promotes the principle of all cultures and religions moving together in harmony. Individuals of all backgrounds and beliefs are welcome to participate in Fung Loy Kok.
Fung Loy Kok Taoist Tai Chi® holds All Souls events at each of our three temples annually. This practice follows Master Moy Lin Shin’s wishes to heal the sick and soothe the deceased. All Souls begins this year with Taoist chanting ceremonies at our Wong Dai Sin Temple today. Ceremonies will also be held at the International Centre, near Orangeville, next weekend and at the D’Arcy St Temple from August 13 till August 15.
Each year the gate of the realm of the dead is opened for the first half of the seventh lunar month, and the souls of the deceased, including any lost and hungry souls, can be blessed and receive offerings and gift packages from their families or friends. Most importantly, the souls are invited to come and listen to the chanting. We hope that they will listen to the wisdom in the sutras, and become free by resolving any attachment, entanglements, or conflicts they had during their lifetimes.
Taoism emphasizes spiritual development through cultivation of both mind and body, with the ultimate goal of achieving harmony within oneself and with the world.
There are three main aspects of Taoist practice:
- performing good deeds,
- rituals and ceremonies,
- arts of transformation (internal alchemy).
The foundation of this practice is established through the Taoist Tai Chi® arts which include Tai Chi, meditation, Hsing-I, rituals and ceremonies, Tai Chi Sword, community service, Lok Hup Ba Fa, chanting and Tai Chi Sabre as taught by Master Moy Lin Shin and provided by FLK.
Participants will have the opportunity to practice any and all components of this training as they choose.
In 1968, a Taoist Monk Master Moy Lin Shin and Mr. Mui Ming To co-founded Fung Loy Kok in Hong Kong. In 1970 Master Moy immigrated to Canada, where he started to teach Taoist Tai Chi® arts, including Tai Chi, meditation (walking, standing, sitting, sleeping), chanting of scriptures, Taoist alchemy and energy circulation and the cultivation of health. He also taught his students to cultivate their conduct in order to tame their hearts and practise virtue, and took care on a number of occasions to point out the connection between the virtues and the health of the body. His actions exemplified how these virtues can be put into practice.
In 1981, he opened the first Fung Loy Kok high shrine at the Society’s Bathurst Street location in Toronto. In 1984, the International Centre was established in a rural location near Orangeville, Ontario, and quickly became agathering place for practitioners from around the world to study and train in the arts that Master Moy taught.

Rigpa offers a broad programme of courses, seminars and retreats designed to make the Buddhist teachings accessible and relevant to men and women of all ages, and from all walks of life. For those new to Buddhism, there are introductory courses, which explain how to meditate and give a general introduction to Tibetan Buddhism.
We also offer a complete and graduated training in the Buddhist teachings and practice. The ultimate goal is to guide and support students so they can receive the highest teachings in the Tibetan tradition, the teachings of Dzogchen, that lead to the direct realization of enlightenment.
A time to meditate For several years, the Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center Rigpa offers everyone (and no cost) a time to meditate. These are animated meditation sessions that take place on Tuesday evenings from 7 pm until about 8:15 pm - 8:30 pm.
These sessions take place in three stages: first a presentation of the session by the facilitator, then the viewing of a teaching on meditation, finally a series of three periods of meditation of about fifteen minutes each separated by a Or two minutes of pause-stretching.
These sessions are a beautiful gateway to Tibetan Buddhist meditation. Without inscription or obligation, one comes there when one wants and can. And nothing to bring: chairs, carpets, cushions ... all the required equipment is at your disposal.
We all want to be happy but, often, the relentless pace of life and its challenges prevent us to turn towards happiness.By the wisdom of meditation, however, we can find peace and contentment. To our great astonishment, we discover that a deep tranquility is still there, with us, behind the whirl of all our thoughts and emotions. When we allow our mind to settle quietly in its natural peace, what happens then is quite extraordinary.
At the Montreal Rigpa Center, we invite you to come and discover the true meaning of meditation. This course was specially designed by Sogyal Rinpoche after many years of teaching in the West. It presents more than 2,500 years of Buddhist wisdom and experience in a way that is authentic, accessible and perfectly adapted to modern life. Consisting of five modules with five to seven sessions each, it offers a comprehensive introduction to meditation practice and shows how it can free our natural trust, compassion and creativity. By taking part in it, you will get an authentic experience of meditation as well as all the tools necessary to translate the benefits into every aspect of your daily life.Sogyal Rinpoche is a world-renowned Tibetan meditation master. Zen Muskoka Yoga Studio
Kathok Meditation Centre
Nectar Yoga B And B Island
In 2012, we set off on a world adventure. We left the comfort of our jobs, our home, our North American conveniences, to explore the nomadic less-stuff lifestyle. We travelled light in a physical sense, but our real goal was enlighten in a spiritual sense. Living out of only two suitcases, we ventured to, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Germany, and Switzerland. Our trip took us to many ashrams and yoga explorations and meditation centres. We let go of our expectations, our timelines, our creature comforts, and everywhere we went, we found ourselves. At times it was uncomfortable, it was sad, it was blissful, it was lonely, it was awesome, it was every human emotion, just like life. And through our understanding of ourselves, we knew upon returning home, we wanted to make a life change. This change had to include space, meditation, yoga, giving, receiving, ocean, and clean air to name a few.
For two years we looked for the location to continue our dream. As of September 1, 2014, we welcome you to Nectar Yoga B&B on Bowen Island, to share in our dream. Our goal is to provide a healing space for a weekend retreat or longer. A space that is easily accessible from city life, yet totally disconnected. A space that is simple, sustainable, conscious, and connected. We offer yoga and meditation packages or, if you prefer, just stay in our Nectar Loft Cottage and read, relax, explore.
In August 2014, we moved to Bowen Island. In September 2014, Nectar Yoga B&B opened it’s doors. Since opening, we have welcomed guests from all corners of the globe. We have been inspired and amazed by the power of word-of-mouth and how our business has organically grown with NO paid advertising. That’s pretty cool!
We opened with one cottage and a small studio space. We now have 2 cottages and a Geodesic Yoga Dome. Starting in 2016, we will be opening our whole property for a yoga retreat rental space, which will include our main house, our two cottages and our yoga dome, sleeping 12 people in total. Our vision is to continue to create a healing environment for more and more practitioners to learn, explore, expand, and let go!
We love what we do and we love meeting each of you. Everyone who stays at Nectar Yoga leaves their individual energetic mark. We look forward to welcoming you back or for the first time. The future is bright and full of beautiful possibility.
Soham Yoga Bis Center
Canadian Yoga Institute
The Canadian Yoga Institute is a non-profit charitable organization (charity # 868910811 RR0001). We began our organization in 2000, with a pilot project teaching classes at a space rented from the UofL. From that early project we formed a small non-profit organization to ensure that our community would have a genuine yoga centre that fostered the healthy lifestyle of yoga. It was quite a journey to get from that point to where we are today. We have moved a few times, and made due with less than ideal situations as part of our growing pains. It has been a worthwhile journey.
Nearly 16 years later The Canadian Yoga Institute is reaching many people in our community with the gift of yoga. Many thanks to resources donated by numerable local businesses, and a few Grants from Alberta Sport & Recreation, TransCanada Pipeline, Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commision, Alberta Community Development, and the countless volunteer hours from individuals who all had a hand in creating this lovely refuge for our community. CYI is proud to team up with many different community groups and charities through the year and offer karma yoga classes, like Toys for Tots, making connections and partnerships with both Lethbridge Food banks. Why Should I Do Yoga at The Canadian Yoga Institute?
Some people start doing Yoga to tone their bodies and lose weight. Others want to alleviate symptoms of stress such as anxiety or depression. Indeed more and more doctors recommend Yoga to people with everything from back pain to heart disease and even cancer. Yet ask most people who practice Yoga what it is or what it does for them and they are at a loss to pin it down or define it.
Each of us is unique in our ever-changing structural make-up, and so it’s important to find a teacher and style of Yoga to meet your unique needs. Developing a Yoga practice sets a strong foundation for all of the activities in your life. It’s about developing a relationship with yourself and taking responsibility for your health. Whatever your reasons for beginning Yoga, you’ll feel better, you’ll look better and you will respond to the world around you more effectively.
Here’s a few things the Canadian Yoga Institute is known for:

Clear Sky Meditation And Study Center
The center came into being in 2004 to fill a niche that our founders felt was lacking. They saw the need for a permanent physical location for a multi-faceted approach to awakening.
In essence, Clear Sky exists as a space to help people wake up.We offer world-class awareness and mindfulness training. One of our strengths is in revealing and integrating the shadow - something that is easy to sidestep in spiritual practice. This happens through direct relationships with teachers and trainers that address every aspect of the being. The goal - to awaken in this lifetime.
Clear Sky is the primary retreat facility in North America of Canadian-born lama, Doug Duncan Sensei. Known for his compassionate insight, remarkable sense of humor, and life-changing advice, Doug Sensei leads retreats and courses designed to guide individuals to attain their fullest potential as human beings. As well as drawing from decades of experience, Doug Sensei can seamlessly weave in wisdom from the realms of traditional and contemporary gurus of psychological and scientific thought. His direct, no-bullshit style were learned from Namgyal Rinpoche, and designed to cut through illusion on the fast path to awakening in this lifetime.
