I don't know why people just comment on classes based on very limited visits. The studio offers classes such as Jodi's Master Class and Kathy's Power Yoga for advanced yogis, as well as milder classes such as a whole bunch of Flows. And the schedule is balanced by Pilates. If you ever tries Leslie's Power Pilates, you won't complain about the challenges. The more important thing is, the studio does offer a variety of Yin/Restorative Yoga. I quit Yogatree just because the whole vibe is like a circus or competition. 889 is just as calm as its decoration. Yoga is a practice to calm down inside world, not to show off that you can stand on your arms.

889 used to be about authentic yoga. At one time it was known for having some of the "Best yoga teachers in Toronto." It was about authentic yoga. You know the REAL yoga that is treated not just as a physical practice to get a nice body, but a spiritual practice to be treated with reverence. Then just like that one day 889 went from being about yoga to becoming a posh boutique that sells over the price THINGS and has classes on how to use essential oils! This happened because of the two previous owners who under the guises of being yogis were just two savvy business women sorely interested in business, not yoga! One by one the great teachers left and so did a lot of the students, like myself. Some of the staff are .... let's say, not such yogis. And the clientele .... well they are the "Rosedale" type .... instead of teaching how to use essential oils, this place needs to hold classes to teach some of their clientele to crack a smile ...or eat a sandwich. They look like hungry snobs! You want REAL yoga, go to Downward Dog or Octopus Garden!

Come here for great capable teachers but don't expect to have your form modified if you are a beginner. Conversely, if you are advanced in your yoga or pilates practice you will not be challenged - the classes are very middle of the road and geared towards "all levels" in order to pack as many people in so they can make the most bang for your buck. And don't expect any frills - no mats or towels unless you rent them, no cups for water, tea and snacks are available at Starbucks prices. I was told the original owners who were well practiced in yoga, pilates and spiritual teaching and meditation are no longer there. The studio looks the same but it is void of any authenticity and the attitude that is projected leaves a lot to be desired.
