Yoga Newcastle

I have been taking classes with David for over three years. In my view, David is a brilliant teacher. He is vastly experienced and hugely knowledgeable. As you would expect, he is also calm and patient! His classes are designed to challenge you but at the same time everyone is encouraged to go at his or her own pace. David brings some top teachers to Newcastle and runs some great weekend courses of his own. If you want to experience the real deal, then I can’t recommend David’s classes enough.

My 1st introduction to Yoga was via one of David Atkinson’s classes and straight away he put me at easy among other more experienced class members. David has a very inclusive way of teaching people of all levels and is able to included great breathing and meditation techniques into his classes. Several years later I have continued to attend his classes and also a couple of his Yoga retreats held in Same y Ling monastery in Scotland. I would thoroughly recommend his retreats too as there is more time to experience a wide range of meditation and yoga practice in a beautiful relaxing environment. Overall I find David a wonderful teacher and I am so grateful to how Yoga makes me feel!

David is one of the most authentic and friendly people I’ve ever met. David’s dedication to his own yoga practice, his depth of knowledge and understanding, is reflected in his diligent and generous approach to his teaching. David offers an array of interesting courses and extended practices which are affordable and excellent value. In addition, he hosts guest teachers from outside of the region. I have attended David’s courses and retreats for the past 4 years, which leave me feeling rejuvenated and inspired to learn more. David’s retreats cover posture practice, breath work, thai massage and meditation, interwoven with a generous dose of yoga philosophy & history. David has a unique ability to illuminate a holistic view of yoga practice, without sacrificing the depth of experiential learning for his students.

I absolutely love David's classes. He is extremely experienced with an amazing wealth of knowledge of the whole practice of yoga. I love that the class I attend always incorporates pranayama and meditation as well as the physical practice. I've really noticed my all aspects of my practice improve. I have been to India a couple of times to study yoga and David's class is the closest thing I've found to that style of yoga. David's passion for yoga always comes through in the class and there is a always some fun and laughter in every session! I would highly recommend David to anyone looking for a yoga class at any level of experience as David has classes to suit everyone.

I've been going to David's classes for many years now and would highly recommend them to anyone. I've been to various classes within the city, but David's is my first choice. I really like the variety that David brings to his classes, every one is different and provides a nice mixture of breath work and postures. He caters for all abilities and is great at helping you to develop your practice. David has a gentle and warm personality with a good sense of humour and that atmosphere is reflected in his classes.

David has been my yoga teacher for over a year. He is an excellent teacher with a holistic approach to the mind and body. I enjoy David's calm and encouraging manner and student-tailored teaching. I now practice yoga most days, and look forward to classes whenever I get the chance.

I have been attending David's classes in Jesmond for about 18 months now - starting out as a beginner. I have never attended a regular activity for such a long period and I put this down to the gentle, welcoming and encouraging support that David gives. He creates a good atmosphere where people of all abilities feel comfortable and challenged. I have already recommended the classes to others!

I've been to several different yoga classes over the years and David's is the best by far. I've now been going for about 3 years and plan on staying. It is both relaxing and challenging - David introduces variations to postures so you can choose whatever level you are comfortable with. Every class is different, with an emphasis on different areas or techniques - it's never repetitive or boring. Everything is explained and demonstrated, so you can't get lost, and the pace is just right. David is extremely knowledgeable, and you feel that you are in very safe hands. There are extra workshops and retreats that you can join if you wish. It is a friendly, relaxed and highly professional class.

David is a fantastic Hatha Yoga instructor. Each lesson is extremely well-organized and never repetitive, incorporating a wide range of postures, breathing exercises and meditation techniques. For the more challenging postures, David always suggests a number of variations that are easier for less experienced students to follow, thereby ensuring that everyone benefits fully from the practice. I cannot recommend David’s classes highly enough!

David is a very knowledgable teacher with a great understanding of yoga practice. As a complete beginner he has taken me through to intermediate level and grown my confidence. He takes care not to allow us to hurt ourselves and doesn’t encourage us to push our bodies too hard, encouraging a slow, steady approach. I also like that he holds separate beginners classes so everyone is at a similar level. The classes are a good mix of gender and age and they are friendly and not competitive. I definitely recommend David’s classes, especially if you are a little unsure or a a complete novice.

David combines an ability to be both serious and playful. He has an excellent knowledge of all aspects of yoga and has an open and inquiring mind . He never pushes or forces but always encourages. His classes enable you to pursue your own yoga practice with plenty of insights and suggestions . He is never judgmental if you decide to have a few moments of spontaneous movement or rest !! He clearly enjoys yoga as a whole life practice.

I have tried various yoga teachers over the past 9yrs and a year ago finally found David. His teaching is very similar to the traditional Indian style of yoga and there are classes to match every skill level. I have tried David's retreat weekend which was a brilliant intensive yoga weekend and attend his monthly Pranayama (breathing practice) sessions. I can't imagine choosing another yoga teacher here in Newcastle!

I've tried various yoga styles and teachers in Newcastle but David is the most knowledgeable and enjoyable for me. His classes are a good mix of breathing techniques and postures, suitable for every type of body and fitness level. David's classes are perfect to find relaxation and to help coping with stress at work.

Was nervous about joining a yoga group but found David’s beginners and then follow on groups to be staggered to suit my progression. Have been going for a year now and there is no pressure or expectations on you. You can go at your own pace in a relaxed atmosphere. Attended one of the yoga weekends away with 16 others and this was managed well and was an excellent time out. Yoga with David is all gain and no pain.

Dave Atkinson is the man who is responsible for igniting the yoga flame in me, now over 10 years ago. This has opened up a world of weird, wonderful and ancient techniques, which changed things in my life for the better. Dave has been teaching yoga for along time, yet he has a constant thirst to know more and that is what keeps things interesting. Various classes cater for different levels of experience so you know you'll never be out of your depth. Dave holds regular and unique workshops / retreats that help to widen your experience of yoga, beyond asana. His credentials boast a thorough knowledge on the subject, which shows in his classes. If you're looking for the most authentic yet welcoming yoga classes, look no further.
