When you volunteer at Dreamsea in Nicaragua, you are taking jobs away from Nicaraguans. There is nothing a volunteer can do for a private for-profit company that cannot be done by a Nicaraguan. Furthermore, the owners of the business pay no employment taxes on volunteers, giving them an unfair, exploitative advantage over companies that follow the law. There is a violent protest going on in Nicaragua over the INSS, the Nicaraguan social security tax. The government told the population they would have to work longer and pay more into a system that is now bankrupt. At this time in Nicaragua's history, the last thing you should be doing is volunteering to work at a private, for profit foreign-owned business. It's insulting that Dreamsea would even advertise for volunteers. By the way, a volunteer must enter on a volunteer visa. Working in exchange for room and board is technically illegal and immigration authorities do make random inspections of local hospitality businesses.
