I attended a yoga class at the studio via USC and was very unhappy. The teacher was generally qualified and helpful as far as possible, but the conditions under which the course took place make the course dangerous for people with little previous knowledge (nor pleasant for people who have been practicing yoga for a long time).
1. The course room was jam-packed. You had to constantly coordinate with your neighbors left and right because you bumped into each other even in positions that took place with elbows bent, not arms outstretched. The markings for the positions of the mats were chosen in such a way that as many as possible fit into the room (--> more money), but focused practice was no longer possible.
2. The trainer made extremely quick announcements and listed a lot of variations one after the other to make it easier for beginners or people with problems, but it was impossible to understand them, let alone understand how they were rattled off. I've also repeatedly seen puzzled faces from people to my left and right who obviously didn't understand anything about the modifications that were supposed to make the practice easier.
3. I'm not an advanced yogi, but I could see that about half of the course were beginners with little previous knowledge and not yet well developed physical conditions. I've seen some very misperformed exercises in the tight space that haven't been corrected. People just banged along, which is irresponsible in yoga.
4. The mats were so narrow and frontal that I could only see the yoga teacher in the second row with her head and part of her upper body. In some exercises I didn't see them at all. I had to follow the very fast bids and shaky asanas of my neighbors and front men to find and correct my position.
5. The mood was not pleasant. Few people smiled or even noticed their neighbors. I suspect that I wasn't the only one who found the situation and environment simply stressful.
6. I suffered a bruise myself during an exercise and felt like skipping in the middle of the class, fearing for my physical safety. I have experience in Pilates, in general fitness courses and have completed about 20 yoga classes so far, 5 of them in the past few weeks via the Urban Sports Club app. I'm sorry to say that this yoga studio accepts injuries to somehow cover the costs and there are other studios in the city that deal better with the difficult conditions for yoga teachers in Berlin. Some things could also be done better within the framework of the spatial conditions. I feel rushed, annoyed, and physically unsafe in this studio and will not be returning.
