Soma Kerala Palace Ayurveda Resort

My wife and son visited this resort and the front desk/operations manager (Sujesh KP) provided excellent service and helped me with giving them a surprise. They also enjoyed the resort, it was very relaxing.

I was enchanted by this heritage hotel with buildings over 300 years old. The rooms, while a bit dark, were comfortable given that they were renovated into old historical buildings. Rooms could be more cleaner and we had a non working old mini fridge lying in the room for no reason. Incredible view of the lake, hammocks for relaxing and reading, and a pool to cool down in. However hotel was overbooked during our visit and pool was extremely crowded and dirty. I loved that we had to arrive by boat, which added to the whole lakeside remote feeling. There were many guests there, so staff wasn't managing restaurant well, service was delayed, food was expensive and below average. The resort was truly beautiful surrounded by water on all the sides. There is a pool, massage center, hammocks , shuttle and chess. The sunset by the side of the pool was awesome. If u want a spend a weekend in the midst of the beautiful sceneries and relaxed environment then it's the place. But if u don't like the humidity of kerala please don't go. There is a restaurant inside and that's the only place where u can eat since the town is not that good.

Review: Property - Nice landscape , not a big one , Traditional architecture. Good for photoshoots. Demand for rooms in upstairs at the time of booking itself . Swimming Pool - Good one , but they won't provide swimming aid to babies / children . Bathroom / Toilet - Not that much great - Not at keeping the standards. Fishing - No proper fishing aids - just a simple make with a stick. Staffs - Very friendly ones !! Food - Tastes good ( traditional Kerala food ) , other food is normal . Free breakfast option was not available & for a simple breakfast buffet they changed heavily !! Dining premises need much more attention.

This property is on an island. If you are travelling by public transport, it is a little difficult to reach even the ferry station. The major problem that we had was while leaving this place. You have to depend on them to get you to the nearest railway or bus station and they charge extreme high prices for this. Leaving apart the travel part, the stay was nice. I liked the hospitality of the staff. The property is very beautiful. A good place to take pictures and also to relax! The massage by Neethu was good as well! The rooms are okayish! One should not expect too much from them. I was unhappy with the food though. I could see rats around the dining area and I have my doubts about the hygiene maintained. Also, I fell sick after having dinner, so I am not very sure about the food quality. Overall, I would recommend this only for the view!

It was the highlight of our 9 day long Kerala tour, it seemed the whole island resort was only for us. The view from the pool was awesome. ideal for a 3-3 day stay when you want to get away from the noise and crowd and just want to relax. Food was good and the property was spacious. It was lil expensive though...you will not get booze there, although you can carry your own. Take your own snacks as there are no shops nearby, only a restaurant which has specific timings. Ayurveda massage center was good.

I highly recommend this property very unique and quiet with a gorgeous green and flourished garden, surrounded by the huge Vembanad lake. The property is located in an isolated charming island. Local people and the village around are really really nice. The Resort staff is so helpuf, caring, attentive, patience. The restaurant offers very tasty and healthy dishes and buffets. The restaurant team paid attention to any of our requests and is very lovely too. Double room and suites are quite spacious, made of wood, we felt like we were in an ancient boat in a past era. Moreover it's the perfect area to have an ayurveda cure or panchakarma, helps to focus. The massage ladies are very skilled and gentle. I really loved this resort and backwaters. We have stayed for couple of says at Soma palace. Soma palace was one of the most relaxing places we ever stayed in. Fantastic ambience, friendly and helpful staff..Person in charge, Sujeev was very friendly, efficient and helpful. Highly recommended for a relaxing holiday, will come back again

We had a great time at Soma Kerala Palace. The staff was hospitable. The warmth of Kerala could be felt through out the stay. The property was stunning, it is very well maintained. One gets lost in the midst of the scenic beauty.

I stayed for 15 days for ayurvedic treatments and ayurvedic diet. It was just great. The treatments were fantastic, the food was excellent. The staff was very friendly, always with a smiling face. Recommended for a relaxing time

Hotel was awsome with Heritage look it was untouched palace very good property,so pure and so nature i had always dream to stay in hotel surrounded by water, Service was good, thank you soma kerala I love soo much, we will come back for long stay with my all family.

Great location , about one hour drive from Kochi. Serene place amist the backwaters . The room i got was bit crampy and poorly maintained ,. A/c was not working properly. The food is average . the best part of the sama kerala is the location and well maintained surroundings .

Great place to be with family and friends, serene, away from the hustle and bustle of city, surrounded by water body on three sides. Excellent food and cordial staff. Nice experience in total..must visit place

Awesome location, great food, courteous staff, clean -spacious room and well maintained property. I loved the Ayurveda facility there, my family took therapy session and pleased with the result. The property has a small swimming pool too which was clean and neat

The location is amazing and the best is that you only hear the sound of birds...It's a very relaxing place. Ayurveda treatments are the best I ever had. The tour to Chempu and to the fish market was a great experience. Staff very kind and professional

It is a beautiful Island, you get to the island via motor boat. Nice for relaxing. Well kept, I understand it has won a number of awards. Take a lot of mosquito repellent. Rooms are nice, with all the amenities. Visited from 12 to 13 Oct.

This hotel is the perfect place to stay if you are seeking peace and quiet. The food is excellent and the staff is very helpful and friendly. There is an Ayurvedic doctor and therapist on the grounds. They also offer yoga. The rooms are clean and well kept.

Nice property situated in an island. You can park your vehicle at the parking yard provided by them and from there you will be taken to the property in a boat provided by the resort. It's a short but beautiful journey. The location and food is nice. Though there is only one restaurant in the property, they provide almost all types of cuisines in it. Overall experience was excellent...

I really liked this resort, Lot of wood used for construction as the name suggests it has a look of a decent size palace. The Hotel Staff, food and rooms were good, not that spacious but decent. Would recommend to all.

This place is like a diamond in the ruff. The way to it is narrow and muddy that you will think of going back before you reach the place. Once you get on the boat to reach the island, your opinion may change. It is a beautiful place. The place was not crowded so we enjoyed a lot of time in the swimming pool. The place is built to be old style so the entrance to the room is narrow and there are no mosquito nets. The food was great and I liked the staff. There are no mosquitos during the day.

This place located in the center of the vebanada lake which is connected to the arabian sea ...and this place is very pleasent and beautiful....refreshing ...its like we are in heaven on earth in the middle of water ....nicely made with ancient woods ....palace is perfect name for it...we stayed just for a day ...but wished could have stayed for more days...staff is good and very helpful...food is good ...and its also ayurvedic center ....so thats a best point......

its an island and that itself is a pleasuring thought........add on is the tradition Kerala style accommodation............ lot of fishing activity in font of property......had the best stay..........staff are very friendly......special the resturant staff............. completely paceful stay too....

Ancient building. Resorts in an island. You can reach here by there own boat. Ambience is good. Room required maintenance. Painting everywhere peeled off. Toilet is not so clean. Food is average. Overall an average stay.

Let me start with this place looks wonderful. Its beautifully set out and the rooms are large and clean with an old raj feeling ( though the bathroom tired). Its on an island which is nice but you are at the mercy of the hotel boat service which is shall we say- intermittent even when you request specific times. We were very clear about timings and told yes then nearly missed our houseboat as a result of waiting for everyone else. We waited nearly an hour on another occasion to be picked up- to see an empty boat eventually arrive. The auyrvedic treatments are great and well priced and the practitioners lovely. The food is buffet and ok. I found the staff to lack initiative. After asking lots of questions about attending the Vaikom temple they arranged for us to go WHEN IT WAS CLOSED. It was a complete waste of time.( FYI- temple open from 4-11.30am and then opens again 500pm to 900pm.) Generally I think the ethos of this place is lazy. We asked to book a houseboat run by them and they said- 'you have to do that yourself'. They missed out on our business but we got somewhere fantastic ( see review). I think they need to smarten up their act if they want to appeal to Western tourists.

This hotel is on an island and you get there by a small ferry boat which you may have to wait a while for. Architecturally the place is great. As is normal in most Indian hotels the WiFi is so weak that you cannot use it. Also common is the lack of hot water in the bathrooms. I can shower in cold water but shaving in cold water is never fun. The swimming pool had scum on the surface and, whist shallow, you could not see the bottom there was so much green algae in the water. None of our group used the pool! Dinner was good with a nice choice on the buffet, breakfast the same. But be aware this is a teetotal hotel. No alcohol of any sort. Furthermore you my not bring your own, except maybe, for consumption in your own (fridgeless) room.

The setting is lovely being on its own island however this makes it a bit tricky to find! I had emailed 3 times to ask for a taxi transfer from Kerela train station but only had a reply once it was too late and we sorted ourselves out! Our driver asked a local person how to find it as the phone number on booking.com was not working. The food was buffet style but distinctly average, enough for most tastes though. The treatments however were very reasonably priced and the staff in the Ayurveda centre were wonderful. We attempted to pop out to see the local temple but were not told it would be closed in the afternoon so wasted a lot of time for nothing and then waited 45 mins for the boat to be sent back to collect us! Before check out we explained we needed to be in our taxi to head off to a houseboat by 10:15, we were told that was fine but then made to wait while 2 families checked out and ended up half an hour late!! Thankfully our house boat waited for us.... speaking of which, I had asked reception if they could help book us a houseboat, I was told the Soma Houseboat was a separate entity, handed a brochure and told to call myself. I emailed and called and was not called back as promised so we booked elsewhere! Our room was lovely, great original features and very clean. Would have had another point if the bathroom wasn’t quite so tired.

You got to park your vehicle & get into their boat to reach the hotel. Its more of an island in the Vembanand lake. Property is beautiful with coconut trees, swimming pool, watch tower & Kerala traditional style buildings & rooms. Food is normal. Staffs are helpful. Boat trip is available. But finding the location through Google map maybe hard. Best is to get in touch with hotel before starting.

This is a unique hotel, set on a small island in the backwaters of Kerala. The buildings are antique and special, but are in need of updating, particularly the bathrooms. The service was good and the food excellent. The Aryuveda Center offers wonderful treatments which should be tried.
