Fatuma‘s Tower is a wonderful surprise. As you arrive from the airport by taxi boat, you are led through a the maze of small alley ways in Shela town unto a smallgate. Behind it, peace, calm, green trees and birds. You arrived. Around a tower-like main building some individual apartments and separate houses, some very private, some high up with a terrace and a view over town.We stayed on the second floor of a two-storey building, very private, lovely terrace with trees providing shadow. Room simple, but lots of atmosphere, a choice of books. Bathroom not quite cutting-edge infrastructure, but very clean. Soeaking of: Cleaning is impeccable. Meals under palms in the open, the food is fresh, seafood excellent. The staff extremely friendly, always helpful. Joseph, the manager, always alert and caring, already over mail ahead of arrival. And Gillis, the owner, makes the rounds at the tables every day, inquiring about the day‘s adventures, and sharing interesting bits of Kenyan history. Five minutes walk to jetty or beach, Fatumas is both central and private. Very good value. Really no qualms
