If you are looking for a little adventure, do not hesitate—book a holiday with Azrac Surf! At 40-something, I decided I wanted to learn how to surf and was lucky enough to have found Sophie and Morad (owners of Azrac Surf). They offer a fabulous surf and yoga package that includes nearly everything you could possibly need for a relaxing and adventurous vacation. And, they are truly wonderful people that are invested in giving you a good experience. Sophie and Morad think of every detail – from the best waves to catch to the best views for our lunch spot. And, they pride themselves on small groups (we only had 2-3), which gives them the opportunity to get to know you, work with you on the surf board, and create an amazing vacation for you. Morad was an unbelievable instructor—he was patient, encouraging, and caring. He was just as excited as us when we would get up on a good wave. We saw a lot of other surf companies out on the beach with 10+ students per instructor and they would arrive and leave at the same time, regardless of the wave condition, and they had very little hands-on instruction. Morad didn’t do this—he knew the tides and the winds and set us up to surf at the best times, and he was in the water with us providing us tips the entire time. I was up on the board on day 1--it was a blast! And Sophie coordinated everything—including a trip to the market, a hike through town and up the mountainside, afternoon coffee, and a visit to the spa and hammam (which I would highly recommend)! We also ended each afternoon with yoga on the rooftop terrace. It was just what I needed to calm my body and relax my mind. Carston was a great instructor and tailored the class to our needs, which was nice because I am only a beginner yogi. The accommodations were very nice as well, and the food was some of the best I have eaten in all of my travels. The house cook, Fatima, is amazing. I can’t even select my favorite meal because they were all delicious—veggie and meat tagines, couscous with roasted vegetables, fresh fish, and wonderful cakes for dessert.
There are a lot of surf companies in this area, but Azrac is unique and provided us with personal attention that gave me a truly Moroccan surf experience, as opposed to just a surf experience. I will be back to visit Sophie and Morad (and Carston and Fatima) soon!
