Why Choose Canning Street Yoga for Yoga in Edinburgh
Yoga is an excellent choice for people in Edinburgh who are looking to improve their fitness, heighten their mental wellbeing and also for helping with injuries or pregnancy. Yoga is designed to help the body and the mind simultaneously, removing stress from the muscles as well as from the brain. Yoga is particularly good for beginners to exercise in general, or for people who have not exercised in a while. This is because it can be made as gentle or as difficult as you would like. Under the tutelage of a good practitioner, yoga can be very cathartic, and can help with diet and weight loss efforts.
If you’re based in Edinburgh, there are plenty of ways that you can practice yoga. Whether you are interested in hot yoga, prenatal yoga or just a beginner’s class, Edinburgh has an excellent yoga practice scene, with several events held throughout the year.
Yoga Events for Everyone
There are several events in Edinburgh each year that are focused on yoga practice. The largest organisation for Yoga in Edinburgh is Yoga Scotland, which frequently holds seminars to practice yoga with experts. For example, from April 23rd to 24th this year, there is a Spring Seminar on yoga with Rosabella Jordan, an esteemed yoga instructor with a focus on connecting to individuals’ roots.
There is also the Annual Yoga Scotland Weekend 2016, which is held from the 10th of June until the 12th of June. Again focusing on roots - a yoga theme for this year - Swami Saradananda, Jason Birch and Jacqui Hargreaves, along with Yoga Scotland teachers, will host a weekend of yoga practice for all levels, with yoga for beginners included.
Yoga for Beginners
If you are thinking of starting yoga in Edinburgh, then we invite you to join us at Canning Street Yoga. We have a selection of in-house yoga teachers who are all trained to the highest standard. We are certain that you will be able to find a yoga practitioner that suits you. Ensure that you have everything you might need, such as comfortable clothes, water to rehydrate, and a yoga mat. It is best if you start with our beginners classes, because it is tailored to people who are unfamiliar with practicing yoga. You will also learn the basics of yoga theory, such as breathing focus and meditative thinking. If you are suffering from an injury, it is best that you inform your yoga instructor prior to the practice to ensure that if you need to make any modifications, you can.
Yoga beginners might wonder where to start when they are looking for their first session, but Edinburgh has a thriving yoga scene that is inclusive to those unfamiliar with the practice. At Canning Street Yoga we have an excellent range of classes of yoga for beginners, and accommodate people of all ages and risks (such as arthritis or other movement-based problems).
Prenatal Yoga
For those women who are expecting children, yoga can be the perfect way to alleviate the aches and pains of pregnancy and keep fit with very low impact. Mothers-to-be can often find that they are struggling to stay flexible as their pregnancy progresses, and yoga can help with circulatory issues, back pain, and other problems associated with pregnancy. With a range of gentle stretches and yoga poses, prenatal yoga targets muscles that are likely to be used during childbirth to keep them supple. This helps to avoid complications further down the line. Prenatal yoga can also relieve stress, which mums-to-be might be feeling as their pregnancy develops. It is best to consult with your doctor first if you are thinking of taking up any exercise, just to avoid any risks for the baby.
Hot Yoga
For experienced practitioners who want to challenge themselves a bit more, or for beginners looking for a real workout, hot yoga is an excellent choice. Hot yoga - sometimes known as Bikram Yoga - refers to practicing yoga in a hot environment, usually a room heated from 36 to 38 degrees Celsius with either heaters or infra-red technology. This encourages the muscles to relax, loosening joints and allowing yoga practitioners to stretch a little more than they might do if in a colder environment. The body can also recover more quickly, as the muscles are kept warm throughout the practice and after the session. If you are looking for hot yoga classes in Edinburgh, then head down to Canning Street Yoga and get started! We look forward to seeing you on the mat.
