OUR PHILOSOPHY
As a creative process, yoga teaches us to model our own being as though forming a great work of art, using ourselves as our unlimited canvas of transformation. At the same time yoga teaches us how to let go of the confines of our self-limiting mind, our preconceptions and ideas, so that we can achieve the best version of ourselves.
The creative process of yoga is a way of observing, exploring and feeling for a connection to the world around us and inside us -and the astonishing magic of it! Yoga is all about making these connections - both within ourselves (body, mind, breath and spirit) and with the world around us.
The meditations, movement and breath that we practice in class teach us to connect both to the earth below us and to the vastness of space around us. This same connection that we strive for in class is echoed in what we learn from nature.
The astounding beauty, solitude, and perspective that nature gives us, bring a sense of wonder and inner peace. But the wilderness can be a harsh teacher. Sometimes this peace comes hard-won from our struggle with the elements and our sense of our own vulnerability. It is for this reason that nature is the best teacher and it is there that our teachers seek inspiration for our classes and for their practice.
The need to be wholly present, alert to our every sensation, gouverns both life in the wilderness and in the yoga studio. It is this awareness that brings with it a sensation of being vibrantly alive and somehow connected to something bigger than ourselves.
Modern life provides ample distraction, noise, and confusion and it is easy to lose focus and let that concentration and awareness slip away. Yoga, like an adventure into the wilderness, brings us in contact with the raw spirit of life, both in its tender vulnerability and in its creative power.
Soul Shine Yoga has moved to a new fantastic venue just off Marchmont Road! With two great rooms - the Shiva room upstairs, and the Ganesha room below, our venue has ann Bohemian vibe as well as a tea room for after-yoga-relaxation!
Both rooms feature original fireplaces that we have transformed into altars with pictures of our gurus, past and present. At Soulshine Yoga we put a special emphasis on retaining the connection to the original cultural foundation of yoga, and make sure that our studio keeps itsn heritage alive!
