The Salisbury Centre Our Mission
The Salisbury Centre exists to create a dynamic spiritual centre which provides for the City of Edinburgh by offering courses and experiences which actively support and encourage the development of responsibility and service to the community. Our programmes are varied and accessible in order to offer people the opportunity to find their own spiritual path.
Our Key Objectives To provide a venue for:
Yoga, Tai Chi, Qigong and meditation, or other body/mind/spirit practices such as dance, the study of the interconnectedness of all manifestations of the Unity of Being and practical applications such as gardening or craft work.
To direct our efforts particularly but not exclusively towards the following groups of people:
The constitutional aims of the Centre are:
Our Purpose
The mission statement and objectives take the purposes of the Salisbury Centre as written in the constitution, and develops them in order to give a sense of the direction of its work. These should be seen as a work in progress and will be reviewed on an annual basis.
Chogyam Trungpa says quite simply, spirituality means relating with the working basis of one’s existence, which is one’s state of mind. This is a process of turning inwards, a voyage of interior discovery, quiet and receptive. As we deepen our awareness and understanding, letting go of that which is unnecessary, we release energy and increase a sense of freedom and well being.
That energy is then available to extend to others in the ways outlined above. We see this as spiritual activism which reaches out to the wider community. We wish to focus this in our main building at 2 Salisbury Road which is run as sustainably as possible, and with the support of a resident group who support our aims.
