This small 2 story hotel set in the jungle has large verandas especially on the ground floor as these have the most comfortable chairs. Office is well managed with good currency exchange rates. Upstairs rooms are small, full size beds have mosquito netting, and the whole hotel inside and out is clean. Staff is very helpful and can arrange tours. We went to architect Geoffrey Bawa’s house plus his brothers home which are very interesting. There’s nearby river tours, etc. Unfortunately, the Internet never worked for me, but seemed some had service. The railroad station is very near and the Bank of Ceylon is there, too, with atm and currency exchange. Needless to say the train runs nearby. To access the beach, you have to climb some steps, cross on the train overpass bridge, and walk down into a nice sandy beach with umbrellas. Hotel has a good restaurant with draft beer and other choices are nearby. For the holidays, the hotel had a nice party and raffle. Pool area we never used. Mostly, Germans staying here with many books for reading
