Master Shifu’s Woman Know-How Protect Yourself Program was incredible. I learned so much about the art of defense. One of the things I found so valuable was Master Shifu’s heart and passion for the art. He introduced the proper technique and mechanics of the movements as our foundation and consistently weaved these into every class through every advanced strike, jab, kick, punch, footwork drill and so on. I was completely surprised to find out how fundamental rhythms and timing are in both defense and boxing techniques. This concept helped me to understand that defense is not just throwing punches and kicking in a frenzy to attack or defend. Practicing in partners with other members of the group helped me to fully integrate the information and the movements; especially when I had the opportunity to observe my partner and then try the combo myself. Before this program, I seriously doubted my ability to ever be able to protect myself. I wanted to learn, but there was a part of me that just didn’t believe that I would be strong enough if the situation ever arose. The program has ended and I am here five weeks later with a new belief, an empowering confidence, a completely new shift on my perspective of defense and last but not least, five weeks of promising techniques to use when my attacker is least expecting it.
