Vijay Amar, born in 1956, has been practicing Yoga for more than 45 years and teaching Yoga for more than 30 years. He holds the distinction of more than 40,000 hours teaching yoga of which greater than 17,000 hours have been leading teacher training courses. He is a registered E-RYT 500 with Yoga Alliance USA.
Vijay graduated as a Hatha yoga teacher in April, 1993 from Bihar School of Yoga in Munger, India. Immediately after, he started The Universal School of Yoga in Mamallapuram in Tamil Nadu. Several years later Vijay completed teacher training courses in Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga with both Jean Claude Garnier from Belgium and B.N.S. Iyengar of Mysore.
The fruit of many years of study, practice, and teaching in both Hatha and Ashtanga Vinyasa has been the creation of Universal Hatha Yoga which gives the student a depth in understanding, relaxation and self-healing. This style of Yoga utilises physical postures (asanas), breathwork (pranayama) and meditation techniques to liberate the vital energy of the body and mind.
Since 2004, Vijay has been invited to teach in USA, Russia, Mexico, Israel, Kazakhstan and Thailand. He regularly teaches in Goa, Rishikesh, Mysore and his present home in Dharamsala as a teacher in all of these disciplines. He is happy to impart his knowledge and wisdom to the many students who seek him out from across the world.
