Shauna Slingsby founded WAVE YOGAâ„¢ as a tribute to her deep spiritual connection to the ocean and as a reflection of her 20-year yoga journey around the world. WAVE YOGAâ„¢ is a fluid vinyasa style, inspired by the healing properties and elements of water: flowing, buoyant, circular, rhythmic, primal, purifying and nourishing. Our bodies are more than 70% water. When we begin to practice yoga in a way that honours this, we transform stiffness of body and mind and develop flexibility (Shiva Rea). This style offers beginners an opportunity to settle into yoga practice and challenges advanced practitioners to deepen their yoga (life) experience.
WAVE YOGAâ„¢ offers a unique cycle of programs to support women, families, and create community. Through the evolution of her own vinyasa yoga practice and the last ten years of pregnancy, childbirth, and parenting, Shauna has created Wave Yogaâ„¢, Wave Yoga for Womenâ„¢, Prenatal Wave Yogaâ„¢, Sahaja Birth Preparationâ„¢, Mums & Bubs Wave Yogaâ„¢, Toddler Wave Yogaâ„¢, and Kids Wave Yogaâ„¢. Classes are infused with movement meditation, yoga practices that reflect the four elements, music, dance, and fun!
The way we practice yoga is the way we move through life. When we live in the flow, we become creative, spontaneous, adaptable, and more rooted in our life purpose. Wave Yogaâ„¢ brings us back to our natural rhythm. In life, everything comes in waves ~ our experiences, our relationships, our pain/sorrow/fear, our elation/happiness/joy, the sunrise and the sunset, the seasons, the set of surf coming ashore, the crescendo of a song, birth and death. WAVE YOGAâ„¢ is a celebration of our waves, our life, our connection with one another.
Shauna is grateful for her many teachers and the international Prana Vinyasa Flow® community. She completed her 200 E-RYT with Kristin Cooper and her advanced studies (300 RYT) with Shiva Rea and Twee Merrigan, whom she assisted worldwide. Shauna is registered as a 500 E-RYT with Yoga Alliance and has more than 4000 teaching hours.
In addition, she holds specializations in Pregnancy Yoga, Postnatal Yoga, Birth Preparation, Infant Massage, Mums & Bubs, Kids & Family Yoga, and Yoga Trance Danceâ„¢. She is grateful for having studied with some of the best pre/postnatal instructors in the world (Francoise Freedman, Gurmukh Khalsa, and Anna Verwaal) and some of the most fun folks at Rainbow Kids Yoga! Shauna has a gift for working with families and volunteers her time to disadvantaged communities.
Before becoming a yoga teacher, Shauna worked in marine conservation, as a scuba diving instructor, researcher, and marine scientist. She has logged thousands of hours underwater observing marine life, protecting coral reefs, and even practicing yoga under the sea! The quiet and grace that occurs underwater, the feminine and masculine properties of the ocean, the rhythm of waves coming onshore, the circular motion of an eddy…this is the balance and beauty reflected in Shauna’s classes.
