What a brilliant surprise Lilianfels turned out to be. We booked on recommendation of our travel agent (yes, we still use one!), and having looked at the website thought it might be an ok, perhaps a bit old world place, good for exploring the Blue Mountains. The latter is certainly true, but the former does no justice at all to the opulent, tasteful, and very comfortable experience of the hotel itself. Our room was very large and we slept well. The bar is very well stocked, and for part of a large lounge where you can sit for a drink, or enjoy an informal meal, distinct from the more formal dining room, which we did not visit. The food was of excellent quality, and delicious. Particularly worth mentioning are the staff, all absolutely excellent, polite and attentive, and very knowledgeable. Claire at the bar was very helpful to us, with tips for Sydney, our next port of call. Lilianfels is right next to the Jameson’s Valley, so great for walking out and exploring. The beautiful lookout of Echo Point is not even five minutes walk. You’ll gather we had a wonderful four day’s in the Blue Mountains!
