Vancouver Island is a large island off the west coast of British Columbia, Canada. It is located less than a 2 hour ferry ride west of Vancouver on mainland British Columbia and 100 km north of Seattle, Washington in the US. Vancouver Island has a population of around 750,000 living in an area approximately the same size as the country of Switzerland. This island is known for its old growth rain forests, spectacular mountain scenery and abundant marine life, such as sea lions, killer whales and salmon, as well as bald eagles. Victoria is the capital city of British Columbia and is located on the southern tip of the Island. It has a population of 375,000 and is known for its old English character. The property is located about a 1 hour drive north of Victoria. It is within walking distance of the Town of Lake Cowichan, which is a 20 minute drive west from Duncan. Duncan is about 40 min north of Victoria. The Town of Lake Cowichan is also serviced by bus from Duncan. Duncan and the Town of Lake Cowichan are in an area called the Cowichan Valley.
