Sattva School Of Yoga
We are so happy to share on this journey of yoga with you. We believe in the power of the individual to heal body and mind through the practice of yoga. We believe that when any individual commits to his or her self on a path of self development and applies the techniques of yoga – both formally and informally throughout all aspects of one’s life – transformation is there. Through self-inquiry and appropriate response in action, balance is attained. Our goal is to provide a space where the Yoga community can grow, and where we each have the opportunity to experience balance, happiness, freedom and peace, leading to an authentic experience of the Self. The SATTVA School of Yoga first opened its doors in 2002 as The Yoga Loft and it was Edmonton’s very first yoga centre. Over the years the studio has evolved and grown into a school of yoga teaching the SATTVA Yoga method – a combination of the practices of Hatha Yoga with Raja Yoga. To learn more about the SATTVA practice and method, visit here. This yoga center and school has been inspired by Rameen’s commitment and love for yoga and meditation. Known for his generosity in sharing the wisdom of yoga, Rameen has a heart-filled approach to his teachings and has dedicated his life to the path of yoga. In addition to directing the school and teaching at the studio, Rameen travels to inspire teachers and practitioners, teaching on-going workshops and teacher trainings all across Canada. All of The SATTVA School of Yoga teachers are SATTVA teacher training certified and are highly qualified students and teachers of Yoga who want to share with you their own direct experience with Yoga. We feel very blessed and honored to share this tradition and practice with you.

Yoga For Today
A History, by Chris Erdmann Boyko, Founder, Yoga for Today
The history of our yoga community began long before the 2001 opening of Yoga for Today. For 20 years devout students gathered and practiced yoga in Gerda Krebs’ basement. As Gerda moved into retirement students would continue their practice with me, gathering in my basement for the next seven years. Under Gerda’s skilled and passionate mentorship long time students soon become yoga instructors. It was this community of committed and dedicated instructors and practicing students that became the backbone of support upon Yoga for Today’s opening in September 4, 2001. The official studio opening was one of the first in Sherwood Park and one of the earlier studios in the greater Edmonton area. Today, because of the support and commitment from our beloved community of students and teachers, we remain one of the longest standing and largest studios in Alberta.
The intention of opening Yoga for Today as a Centre for Yoga and Health was to provide opportunities for health and wellness in all of its variety and diversity. As uniquely individual as we each are, so is the multitude of Yoga traditions and styles. Making yoga accessible for every body is essential to who we are. Our class schedule reflects and supports a variety of styles and traditions so you can choose the class best suited for your needs. Yoga has the ability to nourish, support and make positive differences no matter our age, physical capability or gender. Providing these opportunities as a community of Yoga instructors is what we believe at Yoga for Today.
More Than Yoga
Yoga for Today provides opportunities for Yoga teachers and serious students to explore and deepen their understanding of Yoga tradition. Opportunity is provided through teacher training and development programs and a rich array of local and international workshops. Becoming aware of the fuller spectrum of Yoga shifts our awareness and the responsibility as teachers we have to our students, our world and ourselves. For the student and teacher participating in workshops and teacher training programs we are grateful. This support affords a continued level of high quality instruction and training programs. Yoga for Today is built upon quality workshops because of the strength and commitment of our yoga community; a community dedicated to learning, growing and making positive differences in the world in which it live. Yoga for Today embraces holistic health by supporting an array of essential services. Qualified and professional therapists at our Centre provide massage therapy, acupuncture, craniosacral, reiki and reflexology treatments. Most importantly, Yoga for Today is MORE than a Centre for Yoga and Health. We are a community! A community made possible because of the strong and courageous women of the past – the true pioneers like Gerda Krebs and Friedel Khattab who brought Yoga into the lives of Albertans for the past 40 and 50 years. Women like my mom, Susie Erdmann, who believed in the benefits of Yoga and whose spirit and support inspired the growth and evolution of Yoga for Today. And we are a community today, standing strong and united because of you and what you bring to this space every time you come.
With 2011 marking our 10th anniversary, we look forward to our next ten years of service! Continue to be a forerunner in the Yoga world Continue to flourish, grow, evolve and successfully support and nourish individuals with Yoga and holistic health Continue to support a high level and standard of Yoga instruction, Teacher Training programs and local and international workshops Continue to support a team of qualified and professional Holistic Practitioners and staff Continue to flourish as a Centre and School for Yoga and Health – grateful for teachings and teachers of the past, grateful for our ability to share the tradition of Yoga Continue to grow together as a community, in love, light, peace and in good health With appreciation for each of you, thank you for giving Yoga for Today the opportunity to step into the next 10 years of loving, faithful service. Yours in Yoga, Yours in Health, Blessings Always, From Chris and All of Us at Yoga for Today
Willpower Institute Meditation Centre
The Willpower Institute was founded by Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo, an eminent master teacher of meditation from Thailand. The master teacher felt compelled to spread meditation to the rest of the world after personally experiencing the extraordinary peace and happiness that arises from this practice. Luangphor’s vision is to reduce world conflict and attain world peace. Meditation increases mind power. With increased mind power, people can control their emotions, reduce violence and increase harmony in relationships.
Luangphor’s mission is to train instructors to help spread the theory and practice of meditation. His reason for this is analogous to the “ripple effectâ€. “You teach ten. They teach ten and each of them teach ten. Soon, one thousand, one million.â€
The ultimate goal of the Willpower Institute and the main reason why the president, Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo, founded the nonprofit organization is to promote world peace through meditation.
Master Teacher of meditation, Phra Dhammongkolyarn, Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo, has attained many extraordinary accomplishments and has overcome numerous challenges. The summary below highlights some of his most important events in his life.
Luangphor Viriyang Sirintharo was born on January 7, 1920. His father, a train station manager, retired to a life of farming in the northeastern village of Nakhorn, Rachasima, Thailand. It was here, along with his parents and six siblings that young Viriyang grew up. It was also in this village that the young boy had his first profound meditation experience which started his journey towards enlightenment more than 80 years ago…
At 13 years of age, Luangphor had a good friend named Kim. One day Kim invited Luangphor to accompany her to the village temple for educational instruction. (At that time there was no formal education system in Thailand and the only place to learn to read and write was at the local temple). Luangphor did not want to go; he preferred to play outdoors with his friend Kim, and his father had already taught him how to read and write .
Nevertheless, Kim was determined, so the young boy reluctantly accompanied her to the temple. In the temple Viriyang sat next to Kim. The Abbot, the teacher, quickly advised him that a male could not sit next to a girl in the temple. Luangphor was dismayed! He did not want to go in the first place and now he had to sit away from Kim! He reluctantly got up and sat in the back corner. He was resigned to waiting while the four-hour class was conducted from 8:00 pm to midnight. He soon became bored. He closed his eyes and silently repeated in his mind – I not come again! I not come again! I not come again! Then something amazing happened! His spirit rose from his body and looking down he could see his arms, his legs; he could see his whole body. He could see high in the sky! He could see around the land! He could see under the water! At midnight, he opened his eyes just as the students were preparing to leave. Viriyang stopped the Abbot and asked him to explain what had happened to him. The Abbot was very surprised and stated, “Viriyang, how is it that you have had such a profound meditation experience? You have had no teacher – some are not able to meditate this deep even after ten years of practice.
