In 2000 I obtained a Teaching Diploma with the British Wheel of Yoga, which deepened my understanding of yoga philosophy. We studied important yoga texts such as Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and The Baghavad Gita.
It was clear to me then, that yoga would be a lifelong study. In 2001 I attended my first Iyengar yoga class, and fell in love with the Iyengar Way. A strong and challenging form of yoga which uses props such as yoga belts and blocks, to help achieve correct alignment within the asanas, without strain or injury. I am currently training for a teaching certificate with the Iyengar Institute and am fortunate to be training with senior teacher Alan Brown at his home in Cowling, Yorkshire. I also attend regular classes with Judith Tomlinson in Blackburn.
The Studio
Crescent Yoga Studio is a purpose built, fully equipped space for the practice of yoga. If you have your own yoga mat do bring it along, otherwise everything you need is right here, you just need to bring your Self!
I opened Crescent Yoga Studio as I was becoming disillusioned with working from local leisure centres, who just didnt understand the concept of what goes on in a yoga class. I had to put up with dirty floors, cold rooms and noisey neighbours, which didn’t help to create the right atmosphere.
Now, I have been fortunate enough to be able to do what I have always wished for. To offer a fully equipped yoga studio, which is clean and warm and quiet and much like walking into my own home.I invite you to come along and see if yoga can help you be the person you want to be.Yoga, an ancient but perfect science, deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one’s being, from bodily health to self-realization. Yoga means union – the union of body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions
Yoga & Health
In October 2010 I had a small operation to help with the discomfort of fibroids, a condition which I controlled with the help of specific postures. Yoga helped my recovery and continues to build my strength to enable me to live an active life.
Yoga can be used as a tool in life. It can be of great benefit for active people, walkers, runners, cyclists, as it helps avoid injury by keeping the muscles supple and toned and the joints flexible. It also corrects bad posture caused by repetitive actions such as sitting at a computer all day! It helps to calm and sooth tension and frayed nerves caused by modern day life.
Yoga can help give us the energy to cope with the physical and mental stresses of modern day life. Spending time alone in yoga practice can help to put things into perspective and builds inner strength, family friends and work all benefit! You need not be an expert or at the peak of physical fitness to practice yoga.
