Decades ago before Bangalore became a hub for technology and yoga a trend, Atma Darshan Yogashram came into existence. There was a lot of interest expressed in Yoga by people from diverse fields of the medical community, psychologists, alternative healing practitioners, and devotees. Paramahamsa Swami Satyananda understood this and put Bangalore on the map of his mission to spread yoga from door to door. Swami Satyananda's first visit to Bangalore in 1979 was very well received by a wide cross-section of people. At the end of the visit in an interview on the national radio, he announced the opening of a Yoga Center in Bangalore. For this mission, he deputed two well-versed Swamis: Swami Muktananda & Swami Buddhananda who were instrumental in making the resolve of their guru mission a reality. In 1982 a Yoga Convention was organized in the city. Swami Satyananda graced the occasion and christened the ashramAtma Darshan Yogashram. He blessed all those present and meaningfully said Seek darshan of your Atma and you will find everything, the whole Universe in it. The beginning of spiritual life stems from the service to humanity Yoga integrates the understanding of life at every level beginning with the physical plane. It harmonizes the physical body and then, through the breath goes deeper to affect the mind. Over time, the practice leads to the realization that fulfillment lies within the body and not without. Satyananda / Bihar Yoga Tradition has at its core, the original teachings of the seers and yogis over the ages interpreted and formulated to address modern lifestyles by Swami Satyananda, the founder of the Bihar School of Yoga. This gentle, yet powerful system addresses the person as a whole, along with his environment and with yoga as the central theme of a way of life. Many branches of yoga are incorporated into this system disciplines from Hatha yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, and Yoga Nidra. The Satyananda Yoga tradition is committed to integrating spiritual growth as an essential aspect of yoga. This is done in a contemporary way, giving a fresh and dynamic approach to the spiritual path, which resonates with modern-day living.
