Choe Khor Sum Ling Centre

Choe Khor Sum Ling (CKSL) is a centre for the study and practice of Buddhist meditation and philosophy as preserved in the Tibetan tradition. It is affiliated with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition.

Choe Khor Sum Ling is a Tibetan name given by His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama which means Sanctuary of the Three Turnings of the Wheels of Dharma referring to the three types of teachings given by Shakyamuni Buddha. The three turnings of the Wheel of Dharma encompass all the sutras taught by the Buddha, both Hinayana and Mahayana. Over a period of about one thousand years the teaching lineages of great Buddhist pandits such as Nagarjuna, Asanga, Shantideva and Chandrakirti were transmitted to Tibet from the great universities of ancient such as Nalanda and Vikramashila.

After the decline of Buddhism in, these precious transmissions were preserved and practiced in Tibet. Since 1959, as thousands of Tibetans have come into exile in, this rich tradition of Buddhism which emphasizes the cultivation of compassion embracing all living beings has spread around the globe. Feeling a responsibility to offer this cultural treasure back to the people of the land of its origin, His Holiness the Dalai Lama requested Kyabje Lama Zopa Rinpoche to start a Buddhist centre in Bangalore. Since then, CKSL has been fostering an environment that helps people develop their fullest potential for infinite happiness, wisdom and compassion, inspired by an attitude of universal responsibility.
