Himalayan Iyengar Yoga Centre

I started my practice of the sharat arora method 3 months ago and the journey from being completely unaware to understanding of awareness in our body has been a profound one. I am very grateful to have stumbled upon (literally) this Sharat arora iyengar method as it has changed the way i live,think and act. I am very grateful and indebted to guruji and maria for all their teachings. And anyone who wants to change their life and heal their bodies, this is the definite way to go. ❤️

After spending many years of doing various yoga styles finally found the real deal! HIYC has great vibes, very knowledgeable teachers and helpful assistance throughout the practice. Wonderful continuous guidance given for postures to achieve proper alignment and build up awareness. They prepare you to do your own practise independently. I would recommend to anyone disregarding their age or previous yoga experience. Enjoy!

My and my partner came here to do the 5 day beginner course and ended up completing 3 weeks. The teachers have many years experience and this shows in their teaching which was fully holistic, focusing on proper alignment whilst combining philosophy throughout the practice. I have learned so much more about yoga on a deeper level which I will continue to incorporate in my future self-practice and I look forward to coming back to Iyenger to continue my learning at a later date.

I first came to the HIYC in Dharmkot in May 2014, and have been part of the Centre ever since. Experiencing on all physical, mental and energetic levels the true healing benefits of traditional, authentic YOGA practice - rooted in teachings and philosophy coming from source - truly changed my life! The 5 Day courses are uniquely and carefully structured to give students on all physical levels, with or without injuries and from varying backgrounds a totally holistic experience. If you want to learn authentic Yoga, understand what true balance and freedom means on all levels, this is the place to visit. “ Yoga isn’t something that you can explain in words, it’s something that you have to experience.”

I joined the 5 days intro course in Goa and my experience was certainly very positive. I'm not new to yoga but I'm still looking for something unique when I join a class. I have found this by attending Mihir classes'. He is an excellent teacher and I'll make treasure of what he delivered to us. Also the assistents where very precise and caring. Only negative note is the number of students. In my opinion the shala was too crowded. Nevertheless it is worth to give a try and enjoy your feet :)

Namaste, I originally studied at HIYC in Dharamkot in June 2017 for the beginners course with Beata/Shivani, Leona and Mihir, then for a second week of the continuing students with Leona again. I just arrived in Arambol this week and saw that Sharat was taking the continuing students class so I knew I had to go as I had never had the chance to experience his teachings and knowledge. I must say that I am so happy I did. Sharat's take on Iyengar Yoga is extremely rejuvenating, focussing on finding proper balance and ground using the feet, which effects the way we carry our entire body. The use of various props throughout class are catered to each individuals personal needs. This course is great for teaching you the proper techniques that you are able to take with you for your personal practice. Sharat has a unique sense of humour and tons of knowledge which he brings to each class. He was always making me giggle throughout class. I've decided to take the 5-day course again this week as Sharat will also be instructing and I really value his expertise, sense of humour and energy. This centre itself is tucked away off the main road. It is quite peaceful with shade provided by tall coconut trees. There is filtered water available and also bamboo huts that can be rented. Current students also have access to the yoga halls at set times for personal practice outside of class. All in all, I enjoy all the teachers that I have had the privilege to study with. They each bring their own unique way of presenting Sharat's style of Iyengar Yoga. I look forward to my next week of studied here in Goa and future visits to this centre, as well as the other in Dharamkot.

If you have a chance, I strongly recommend to take up any course suitable for your circum situation here. The teaching is holistic, working on physical alignment to subtler levels. This is the place to go if you want to deepen your yoga practice and learn from incredibly dedicated, experienced and inspiring teachers.

After spending the past 1 week at hiyc i had to go back. Now afer a month of the incredible teachings, i am feeling motivated inspired and grounded. Thank you for rekindling my connection to my body, and my feet! Such valuable knowledge that will be cherished and applied to maximize a healthy happy life Teachers were incredibly inspiring and the classes were invaluable!. Looking forward to practising and my return.

When I arrived in Goa, I had already planned on spending about 2 weeks with the HIYC however, I pretty soon learned that I would wanna stay as long as I could make time. The teaching is beyond anything I had experienced previously and gets you deep into the matter if you are open and willing to learn. Sharat and the entire teaching staff are wonderful, take to heart everyone's personal progress and focus very much on "proper"/natural alignment of the body in the asanas, from head to toe. Especially toe/feet! 😁 You will hold asanas for longer using props, so everyone can participate and enjoy the freedom and lightness in the body as well as mind. Ask for some therapeutic measures if needed, they will take that into consideration and modify an asana using more/different props, or suggest a different asana where necessary. You will soon learn to listen to yourself and become quiet. Drawing from my experience, it may be scary in the beginning but yall will grow from it and love love love the practice, I am damn positive :-) I will be back and miss it dearly. Luckily, I learned to be patient so I can stay for longer periods.

I found out about the HIYC when I was on my way to Dharamshala. And just by seeing the place I decided on the spot to rent a room there and to take the beginners course, which was followed by another week and ruined my other travel plans completely. It was such a strong experience I decided to keep studying with them for another two weeks at the Arambol Centre, in Goa. It really changed the way I see yoga and it got me thinking a lot about the obsession us westerners have about achievement and about form over content. And I can’t really thank them enough for that.
