Dhamma Vijaya is located in a calm and quiet coconut garden (with cocoa as the intercrop), 3 KMs away from the main village Vijayarai. This village is 15 KMs from Eluru, which is the district headquarters of West Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh. Eluru is well connected by Rail and Road in Vijayawada-Vishakapatnam section of Chennai-Kolkata National Highway. The nearest airport (Vijayawada-Gannavaram) is less than one hour’s drive from the centre. The area of the center is 3.0 acres, which was donated by a meditator-couple.
The first course was conducted in June 2003. Since then, one 10-day course is being held every month and one Satiptthana course a year. There are seven individual meditation cells for male students and another seven for women. There are plans to construct a few more on either side.
The centre has accommodation for 21 male students (8 double rooms and 5 single rooms) and 18 female students (8 double rooms and 2 single rooms). There are two meditation halls, which can seat 50 and 30 students respectively.
At a distance of 40 KMs from this centre, there is a historical Buddhist place called Guntupalli (also called as Jeelakarragudem) dating back to 3rd century B.C. There are many rock-cut caves where Buddhist monks used to meditate. These are believed to be more ancient than world famous Ajanta and Ellora caves.
