Kin-Hin relocated in December 2015 to Pachalloor close to The Lagoona Beach Resort. Kin-Hin is about 10 min drive from Kovalam and the setting is idyllic! Situated between Trivandrum and Kovalam – by the Arabian Sea and the Karamana river,a peaceful location with stunning views. Kin-Hin (shanti bhavan) Pozikkara Beach Kin-Hin offers free meditation sittings in Zen tradition (open to all), and yoga classes with Sivan on the roof top. There are 2 guest rooms for home stay style accommodation for those seeking a more personal atmosphere. Kin-Hin is a zen meditation centre established in the summer of 2012 and inaugurated by Zen Master AMA Samy on December 10th 2012. It is the ideal place to come for a relaxing holiday away from tourist crowds yet close to the beaches of Kovalam. You can experience village life and get helpful information and tips from your hosts Karen and Sivan. Karen is English, a meditation teacher, massage therapist and a qualified Laughter Yoga instructor living in since 1997. Sivan grew up in Pachalloor, is an experienced yoga teacher in and Europe and has a wealth of local knowledge about the area and its customs. Please see June news for current information 2012-12-10 16.12.21 You are most welcome to attend ‘sittings’ (free of charge) for it was said by Koun Yamada in his book The Gateless Gate that “to sit zazen alone is so difficult it is almost impossible. For effective Zazen it is very important to practise sitting with a group, at least occasionally, if you want to get resultsâ€. HOME STAY Kin-Hin (being a private home) is primarily a non-residential Zen centre, although accommodation is available for house guests in 2 rooms on the upper floor. Perfect for those that prefer to stay away from the main tourist area and experiencen village life. Please feel free to contact me to discuss your requirements. The main idea of the centre is to establish a regular Zen Meditation ‘sitting’ group, (free of charge and open to all), in the same tradition as taught at Bodhi Zendo; a residential zen centre in the hills of Tamil Nadu At Kin-Hin we will follow the Soto practise of Shikantaza – the Japanese term for ‘just sitting’. There is a daily practise: morning Zazen (meditation sittings) from 6.30am – 7.30am; two 25 minute sittings that one can join at ‘kinhin’(the walking meditation between the sittings.) Evenings, Zazen is from 5.00pm – 6.00pm. THE TIMES OF THE SITTINGS MAY CHANGE ACCORDING TO PREFERENCES. PLEASE CHECK WITH ME IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO COME FOR THE FIRST TIME. According to interest, there will be some full day ‘Zazenkai’s’: a more intensive period of meditation with a talk about Zen and an opportunity to ask questions and talk with each other. I also offer short courses on a one-to-one basis if you would like to experience/learn about meditation and zen practise privately. In order to help the centre grow and to keep it running, donations of any amount will be gratefully received.
Laughter Yoga is unique as it teaches a way to laugh for no reason. It incorporates yoga breathing techniques and laughing exercises. During a laughter yoga session you will be able to experience how even forced laughter in a group setting will quickly become true laughter; spreading like a virus as the nature of laughter is infectious.
Courses include an introduction to the practice, 2 daily meditation sittings with personal postural advice and meditation tips plus time for questions etc.
The rooms are on the second floor of the house; are well furnished with modern en suite bathrooms which have solar heated hot water, Wi-Fi, filtered water, tea bags and coffee are all available for you too. Daily meditation is on the roof morning and evening and you can use the space for personal practise .at other times. There is a led yoga class daily in the mornings and/or afternoons. The style is traditional Sivananda (Hatha) yoga. The cost per ‘drop in’ class is Rs 500 and suitable for students at all levels of experience (beginners – advanced),You can experience village life and be away from tourist crowds. There are small local eateries close by ; restaurants and supermarkets at Kovalam Junction and the attractions of Kovalam beach are just a 10 minute ride away. A home cooked evening meal is available for Rs500 per person.
