Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Classes is an ancient Indian science of the mind. It is an ancient system of self realisation and is a powerful and effective means of discovering truth and attaining freedom. Through the practice of the Eight Limbs of Yoga described in Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras, we are able to “suspend the fluctuations of the mind†and find sustainable inner peace and stillness. Ashtanga yoga integrates the practices of postures, breathing techniques, lifestyle choices, and mental exercises to bring the mind under control and enable a life of peace and happiness. The modern approach to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Classes is technically known as Ashtanga Vinyasa, and gained popularity in the West following Sri K, Patthabi Jois’ teachings in the late 20th century. The system had been passed to him by his guru Sri T. Krishnamacharya who had in turned gained his knowledge from his guru Rama Mohan Brahmachari. Best described as a self practice in a group setting, Mysore style is the traditional way that the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Classes system of yoga is learned. Students come to class and practice the Ashtanga series at their own pace, level and capacity with the individual support from teachers and the energy of a group practice. This self practice method allows the student to work at their own pace while Students are guided through the full Ashtanga Primary Series by the teacher in a led class setting. Known as Yoga Chikitsa (Yoga Therapy), the Primary Series of the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Classes system of yoga is a vigorous and dynamic practice that focuses on the synchronisation of breath and movement. It is designed to create a purifying heat within the body that burns away all impurities in preparation for higher practices of yoga. Participants move through a series of asanas, jumping from one posture to another building heat, endurance, flexibility, strength and mental focus. The Led Ashtanga Full Primary Series class covers all the elements of Primary Series, including vinyasa, Sun Salutations, standing postures, seated postures, and finishing postures. Under the supervision of the Sr. Teacher Yogi Kamal Singh, adjustments are offered to accelerate the mastery of the practice. Students new to Ashtanga yoga are encouraged to take the 7 day Ashtanga Beginner Intensive Course. Students are guided through half of the Ashtanga Primary Series by the teacher in a led class setting using cues, verbal instructions, and adjustments. This class is ideal for those who are beginners or are new to Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Classes.
