Practice was intermittent until 28 years ago when she began serious practice, which lead on to Iyengar teacher training at Herne Bay Yoga.She considers it a privilege to have been teaching in the Iyengar tradition for 16 years. She views her students as a dedicated bunch, and she feels very lucky as they provide a platform for her own learning which is always ongoing and changes as one ages. Barb teaches Iyengar at Breathing Space Yoga and is available for private bookings Classes Ashtanga Ashtanga as taught by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois of Mysore, India. Pattabhi Jois (1915-2009) was a student of Krishnamacharya. His grandson Sharath and daughter Saraswati continue to teach in Mysore today. It is taught in either a led class format or in Assisted Self Practice Classes (traditionally called Mysore Style). In these classes there is a set series of asana (physical poses) which are linked together dynamically with the breath (vinyasa). Primary Series (Yoga Chikitsa – Yoga Therapy) Detoxes the body, mind and senses. Realigns the body structurally with focus on forward bending. Intermediate Series (Nadi Shodana – Nerve Cleansing) Purifies the nervous system by opening and clearing the energy channels, with focus on back bending.
