About Svastha Yoga Svastha is the name given by A. G. Mohan and Indra Mohan to the yoga which they teach. The word refers to a state of optimal health and balance, and the principles of Svastha Yoga are to guide each individual towards their own ‘svastha’. Rather than a brand or style of yoga, this is an integrated and personalised approach, where students are supported with practices that meet their individual needs. The focus is on functional movement combined with breathing and yogic mindfulness to cultivate a healthy body and a calm mind. About Barbara Barbara is an experienced and skilled yoga teacher with a passion for educating practitioners and yoga teachers in the art of sound yoga practices. Yoga has been a part of her life since 1992 and she has been teaching since 2007. Barbara’s approach to teaching yoga is to encourage her students to move and breathe in a way that is both functional and easeful, leaving aside the idea that yoga has to be complicated or difficult. In her role as an educator, Barbara encourages teachers and trainee teachers to question dogmatic approaches to teaching methods and alignment cues; and promotes inclusivity and accessibility. Barbara has studied, and continues to study, with A. G. Mohan and Indra Mohan of Svastha Yoga and Ayurveda. These are two of the most knowledgeable yoga teachers alive today, with direct links to the father of modern yoga, Sri T. Krishnamacharya. Barbara began her training in yoga therapy in 2010 with the Mohan’s son, Dr Ganesh Mohan, graduating in 2014. She is certified as a Yoga Therapist with the International Association of Yoga Therapists, Yoga Australia and Yoga New Zealand. Barbara is proud to represent the teachings of the Mohan family in Aotearoa, New Zealand.
