Our Story COME ON IN AND MEET YOUR KOHA FITNESS AND HEALTH WHĀNAU Tā mātou korero…. Back in 2017, Chris and Tarina recognised that Cantabrians were still suffering the aftermath of the Canterbury quakes and wanted to be part of doing something ‘positive and uplifting’ for our beautiful city of Ōtautahi. At a time when business owners were being asked to be brave and invest in the new look, new feel CBD, they decided that opening a health and fitness centre was a good way to support whānau to prioritise their health during the rebuild phase. “Good health is a gift”, and part of our kaupapa is to bring the gift of health to the people of Christchurch while engaging in the concept of ‘koha’. They chose the name ‘Koha’ because they know that Koha implies an exchange - something of value given in exchange for something else of value. And of course, the value does not only have to be money. Chris and Tarina want our gym to be active contributors and give to our community in many ways. We share knowledge, facilities, time, acts of service, or the gift of events to support local charities. TARINA STEPHENS, CO-OWNER & MANAGING DIRECTOR Tarina Stephens has spent far too long (she will never tell you how long) as a successful and sought-after group fitness instructor. We dust her off and get her back out on the tools from time to time in the gym! She is a television floor manager who has spent a large part of her working life either ‘gunging’ children on TV2’s What Now, or ordering people around at the rugby for SKY SPORT. Tarina is a co-owner of Koha Fitness and believes that life is more fun when you’re fit enough to play! WE ARE LOCAL WE ARE CENTRAL IN THE HEART OF THE CITY, OVER LOOKING THE AVON RIVER.
