The first time I walked into the Jivamukti centre, we chanted from the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali at the beginning of the class. The teacher chose the sutra on the five obstacles to the yogi path, ie avidya (non-seeing, ignorance), asmita (ego), raga (attachment), dvesha (rejection), abhinivesha (fear).
That’s the style. The extra touch. The icing on the (vegan) cake.
The centre is a place where you’ll be immersed in yoga not only as a purely physical or meditative activity (although there’s plenty of that!), but also as a lifestyle. This ‘complete’ view is what makes the Jivamukti centre so interesting. It leads to self-reflection, great bodies and a more compassionate outlook towards life.
