(Translated by Google) In April 2018, together with a friend, I spent a week in "Surf Spirit" in Unawatuna, Sri Lanka! Our first surf & yoga camp and actually "the first vacation of this kind" for me, because otherwise I have only made individual trips. In summary: It was absolutely awesome!
The Villa
Not to beat! The property is very large and just fantastic. You feel good immediately. There are so many beautiful areas that you do not even know where to go first! The cill-out area, the hammock and the pool have mostly prevailed with me ;-)
The rooms are very lovingly designed and very clean, we had one with a small "balcony" (favorite place to star) and a fantastic outdoor bathroom! Super good and important: the air conditioning and mosquito net! The rooms were on a much better standard than the other accommodations on our Sri Lanka trip.
surfing
Me: Absolute surf beginner with respect for surfing and above all sore muscles! Our surf instructor did some theory with us at the beginning and there were some dry exercises. Then it went into the water for the first time. The bay itself is really good for beginners as it is quite flat, so you do not waste too much power paddling out and of course there is more safety. The sore muscles were therefore limited! You make progress pretty quickly at the beginning, so you really evolve from day to day. The surf fever has really grabbed me!
yoga
The yoga class was also a lot of fun. Our yoga teacher has been able to bring all levels together as there were a few absolute newcomers but also proper yoga pros who have even done yoga themselves. It was also good that the units were always in change, in the morning before breakfast and then again in the afternoon.
eat
Absolute dream! It was always freshly cooked and there was a huge selection. It was taken into consideration for guests who had incompatibilities or just did not like spicy food. For breakfast there were the best pancakes ever! And so many delicious coconuts!
Booking & Management on site
From the first request to the farewell everything was super! Even the first contact with the booking request was surprisingly personal - so no "standard answer". We were warmly welcomed and immediately felt incredibly welcome. You quickly realize that in the "Surf Spirit" much emphasis is placed on the personal contact and the experience for each individual guest.
trips
We had Wednesday "surf and yoga free" (is also a really good thing to give the muscles some regeneration ;-)). We drove to the neighboring town of Galle (with the Tuk Tuk you are in 5 to 10 minutes there). Bile is perfect for a morning or afternoon. There are a lot of small cafes and boutiques. But you also have many other possibilities and can directly in the "Surf Spirit", book a trip (turtle farm, national park, cooking class, etc.)
Sri Lanka itself
If you have time, then it is absolutely a week or two to hang and travel around! We were two weeks in advance and drove mainly by train. Sri Lanka not only has the coast to offer, in the highlands hides a gigantic landscape and through the countless tea plantations it is everywhere green! As far as the eye can see!
Last but not least
Take some zinc and sunscreen with a high sun protection factor. The sun in Sri Lanka should not be underestimated, so I strongly recommend a long-sleeved surf shirt!
You notice, I can not get out of the swarming and would have loved to stay there! Therefore 5 full stars and a real recommendation to book the "Surf Spirit"! By the way, no matter if you travel alone, in pairs or even with several friends! Dear "Surf Spirit" Team: Thank you for this unique week!
(Original)
