When it comes to Sri Lankan food, nothing quite compares to a hearty homemade Sri Lankan breakfast! Especially when it’s cooked in clay pots on the traditional “dara lipa” wood stove, using fresh, organic ingredients, and served on banana leaves and woven platters.
Our recent weekend at Amaya Lake included an excursion to Amuna Ayurveda Retreat, where we were treated to a mouthwatering breakfast spread, which started off with “kola kenda” (herbal porridge), string hoppers, manioc, pittu, and kurakkan roti, accompanied by pol (coconut) sambol, lunu miris and freshly grated coconut. The meal was completed with a platter of fresh tropical fruit that included mango, guava, star fruit, papaya, banana and watermelon, and a hot cup of herbal iramusu tea.
This, along with a rejuvenating yoga session with yoga master Illangasinghe, and tour of the vast 22-acre property and accommodation, certainly made that early morning wake up call, well worth the effort!
The Retreat also normally offers a variety of Ayurvedic treatments, which are currently not available due to the current situation. However, the Ayurveda doctor onsite can share a wealth of information on health and wellness, the natural way.
The natural surroundings with an emphasis on connecting with nature, fresh air and your own inner self, are difficult to come across in this modern world of devices and constant connectivity.
A visit to or stay at Amuna will give you the refresher session you need, to slow down and get back to yourself. The exceptional, attentive service of the staff will ensure that you achieve exactly what you came looking for, and more, while adhering to strict precautionary measures required for both visitors’ and staff members’ safety, in the current COVID-19 situation.
If you’re in Dambulla and don’t visit Amuna Ayurveda Retreat for this experience, you’re definitely missing out!
