The Triratna Buddhist Community is part of the international Buddhist movement Triratna Buddhist Community which was founded by an Englishman named Sangharakshita. After spending 20 years as a monk in India, where he studied and practiced in some of the main traditions of Buddhism, Sangharakshita returned to England and in 1967 founded a new Buddhist movement. Its objective was and is to create forms for the practice of Buddhism that are suitable for today's Western man and society, based on the basic principles of Buddhism. The core of the movement is made up of those men, women, transgender and non-binary who have received ordination as members of the Buddhist Order Triratna . They put the Buddhist ideals at the center of their lives and act in various ways to promote the spread of Buddhism. There are currently over 2,500 members of the order worldwide and about 30 in Sweden.
