About Us Origin of Yoga - Adinath (Shiva) The word “Shiva†literally means “higher consciousnessâ€. At another level, “Shiva,†refers to the “Adiyogi†or the first yogi, and also the “Adi Guruâ€, the first Guru. In modern yogic science, Shiva refers to “Adiyogi†or the first yogi; it also refers to the “Adi Guruâ€, the first Teacher. According to the conventional Yoga from Lord Shiva (AdiNath), Yoga is more than just practicing Asanas, it is the art of living through the application of science and technology to understand how nature works and to liberate the soul from the limitations of the body and mind, that can ultimately lead us to the blissful enlightenment. Yoga studios and Yoga teachers in Thailand and in neighboring countries can be a part of our community by registering as members of WYA through our divisions. Currently WYA has over 80,000 members around the world.
