The Sanctuary is a place to simply ‘be’. Reconnect and explore yourself thoughtfully and energetically. Think of us as your recharging point on your journey. It’s amazing what a little madness and a lot of magic can do! The Sanctuary aims to provide a unique and enriching experience, fuelled by magical people, healing opportunities and a beautiful, restful setting. Through our personal and well thought out menu to our Wellness Centre, to the Spa; we always have our minds on self-care, comfort and harmony. We work to balance the body, mind and soul, with daily and diverse yoga classes and a weekly changing schedule of workshops and talks from our amazing healers. All this heaven kept safe by the mystical Thai sea. Dive deeper into self-awareness and fun with a retreat like no other. Welcome to your home away from home. Let us and the bay look after you.
OUR LAND AND WATER
We are located on Koh Phangan Island, tucked away on the remote beach of Haad Tien. Named after the local Tien trees that grow along our beach line. These trees are hundreds of years old and said to hold healing properties. They connect the land and sea, offering protection, luck and growth. Our living jungle juxtaposes the concrete of the modern world. This jungle breathes and sighs. Just like the water it will hold you safe in its arms. Take your time here to watch and listen, you will be rewarded. The sea here can be calm and crystal clear, or powerful and raw; depending on the time of year. But always cleansing, always vibrant and always watching over us with a deep turquoise gaze.

THE ROCKS AND CRYSTALS
Our resort is built on ancient granite quartz crystals. The ocean tumbled granite is unique, combining both the elements of water and earth, flowing yet rooted, emotions and practicality mixing. The granite grounds us and keeps us focused whilst allowing us to flow and overcome obstacles. You cannot help but be embraced by this energy.
THE PEOPLE
The staff here are a wonderful mix of Thai, Karen refugees from the North of Thailand and Burmese migrant workers. Our Sanctuary Family is diverse but we all have our home in the bay in common. The Sanctuary has been a small family run business since 1991; welcoming all who make it to our remote bay with open arms. Recently our waters have been embracing more and more people through word of mouth, social media and some lovely journalistic pieces we’re rather proud of. This is a place where staff and guests become friends and where friends reunite year after year. Once you are a ‘bay person’ you are part of our community for life. No matter where you are from, what you do, or who you are – we all dance to the same rhythm. Come with an open heart and mind and see the magic for yourself!

The One and a half Day Detox is an easy wellness introduction to fasting if you wish to give your body a break for a day. This short fast is particularly good when you feel the first sign of illness coming on, as it allows the body the resources to fight it off early.
You will need to arrive the evening before your fast begins, or no later than 8.30am if you wish to fast on your arrival day. You do not need to be staying in Sanctuary accommodation to take part in our detox programs.
Pilates and fitness at The Sanctuary Thailand, in addition to our Yoga classes we also offer privates of Pilates and fitness sessions on request if we have teachers available.
Pilates was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s as a method of physical exercise that uses the mind to control the muscles and increase their strength, flexibility, endurance and coordination. Focus is placed on developing strong core muscles to greatly improve the efficiency and flow of all body movements. Pilates assists to develop longer, leaner muscles, relieve back pain and refresh the mind and body.
The classes will teach you the importance of proper breathing to increase oxygen circulation and execute body movements with maximum power and efficiency. You will learn simple and effective exercises that can be integrated into your daily routine.

The 3.5 day Mini Fast is great for a first wellness fast, or if you only have a short break! Give your body the chance to get rid of the gross waste products of digestion, by resting and cleansing the entire digestive system. Cacao is the pathway to the hearts calling. This small and beautiful bean is so revered for its heart opening effects that its journey has carried it worldwide.
Today Cacao has reclaimed its position as a sacred ceremonial medicine and is been offered within a dance ritual of letting go and manifestation.
Firstly we arrive from the ordinary into the non-ordinary, gathering in circle and sip the alchemical blend of cacao with other powerful herbs as we share our intentions of what it is we are blessing and letting go and what we are calling into being.
?It is said that life danced itself into being, so we use the sacred tool of dance in unison with the wisdoms of the 5 elements – Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether – to set our payers into motion.

One of the main functions of the liver is to remove and breakdown environmental and internal toxins from the blood. This imposes a large burden on the liver day to day, as your liver is effectively your bodies filter and taking specific care of it once in a while is a great wellness gift to your body. In our Program you will be cleansing the liver of gallstones which dramatically eliminates congestion in the bile ducts, improves the functioning of the liver and digestion, which is the basis of your whole health. You may find that your allergies disappear too, more with each cleanse you do! Incredibly, it also improves the skin, the eyes and may reduce shoulder, upper arm, and upper back pain. In general you will have more energy and increased sense of wellbeing.
A liver cleanse is advised for those who may consume above regular amounts of alcohol or drugs or who have been exposed to toxic chemicals or mold. It is also beneficial for those eating fried foods, a lot of cheese or processed foods. Indications could be bloating, constipation alternating with diarrhea and with bad smelling stools. Also having a sensitivity to oily foods, skin or eye issues and perhaps emotional anger and irritation can be symptoms.
On our program we prepare you for the flush with herbal teas, elixirs of turmeric and beetroot/ milk thistle and raw apple cider vinegar that contains malic acid which is needed to soften the gall stones and open the bile ducts. The actual flush is the classic Epsom salts and olive oil/ lime drinks, followed by coffee colonic and electrolytes and probiotics in the morning to aid recovery.

Led by Lindsay and Viktoria, Yogagati’ Senior Trainers, you will emerge from our course having experienced why yoga is a way of life, not just a form of exercise. The Yogagati program is designed to empower participants from day one. During the three-week intensive course, we guide students through the methodologies, techniques and principles essential to effective yoga instruction. Scientifically sound is a vibration at a particular frequency, and it can be used to produce physical changes in organisms. Some vibrations can be beneficial while others can be harmful, sound can be concentrated and intensified until it shatters and destroys, or sound can be used to soothe and heal.
Sound is a form of energy that has frequency, pitch, volume, tone and many subtle qualities and these were used by the Tantric Yogis and Rishis who discovered during deep meditations certain sounds and psychic vibrations that they called Mantras which were heard when yogis entered Samadhi and other states of higher consciousness.
Modern physics now agree with ancient yogis who through their meditative experiences have known that the sound is a primordial form of energy. It is the original substance and basis of the whole universe; the solar systems are an expression or manifestation of sound energy this sound is known as Nada in Yoga.
In this course, we’ll explore the power of sound, how we can ignore the mind’s endless thoughts during Mantra practice by maintaining constant awareness on the Mantra and we’ll discover how to use Mantras to heal yourself and others by chanting into their bodies.
Yoga Nidra was developed from a Tantric practice known as Yoga Nyasa that placed Mantras mentally within separate parts of the body into a Yoga practice to reduce tensions and anxieties in the mind and body.
During Yoga Nidra, the mind is very receptive and open to suggestions, known in Yoga as Sankalpas, placed within the subconscious mind. Sankalpa is a Sanskrit word meaning resolve and is a very powerful affirmation tool where a mental statement is impressed on the subconscious mind when it is receptive and sensitive to auto-suggestion, self-hypnosis, that can be used to create and change one’s destiny.

We have a diverse and exciting array of accommodations available for you – from simple dormitory beds to exotic and romantic houses inspired by traditional Thai architecture. We hope this page will serve as a guide to help you find the best options. We have two kinds of accommodation: Bookable and Non-Bookable. Please note that Non-Bookable rooms except for our Main Dorms and Zorba Dorm are bookable over the peak period between December 15th – January 10th.
The most direct way to get Ko Phangan is to fly from Bangkok to Koh Samui Island with Bangkok Air. Thai Air also flies to Koh Samui so check out their offers too. Note that Bangkok Air has a very flexible ‘change your ticket’ policy and they have 20 flights a day to and from the islands.
Koh Phangan island is easily accessible by boat from several places in southern Thailand. Most boats arrive on Koh Phangan at one of two towns, Thong Sala or Haad Rin. If your boat lands in Thong Sala, go to Haad Rin town via taxi truck (20 minutes, 100 baht per person), where you can get a car taxi, or boat taxi, to Haad Tien, home of the Sanctuary.
The easiest way to get to The Sanctuary, between mid April to late October, is on the Thong Nai Pan ferry boat. This ferry departs from Mae Nam town (not the pier) on Koh Samui every day at 12 noon and brings you directly to Haad Tien (get off at the second stop Haad Tien). The journey is approx one hour.
Mae Nam is about 45 minutes by taxi from Samui Airport.
