Body Central opened it’s doors as Atlanta’s premier Pilates studio in 1997. Located in the heart of Buckhead, Body Central Studio encompasses a 5000 square foot loft style space with many windows producing natural light, vaulted ceilings needed for the advanced aerial moves, cardiovascular equipment, showers and locker rooms, and a clothing boutique offering American made lines available only in small specialty shops. Pilates was brought to Atlanta in 1996 where owner Robin Blum became the first Pilates instructor certified in the state of Georgia. Body Central has maintained a strong and dedicated clientele, offering the highest quality of Pilates instruction available in Atlanta. Body Central is a pure Pilates studio dedicated to preserve and continue the teachings of Joseph H. Pilates the way he intended it. Our Pilates instructors have been trained by Master Teacher Romana Kryzanowska, the direct successor and protégé of Joseph Pilates, and/or the teacher trainers under her guidance. Each instructor has successfully completed a rigorous 600 hour apprenticeship in which they have learned to modify the exercises to fit any body type, condition, and injury from herniated discs to a broken foot. All instructors are required to continue their education through professional workshops and seminars each year. Body Central is the only fully equipped Pilates Studio in Buckhead. Clients taking private and duet lessons are guided through exercises based on their individual needs on the reformer and mat, electric, wunda, and baby chairs, small and large barrels, cadillac and guillotine. Clients taking Pilates mat classes are trained on raised mats attached to wall units using the tower and springs. About Pilates Pilates has proven itself for more than 80 years as an effective and safe method of exercise, when taught and applied correctly. It has been the workout of choice for dancers, athletes, and fitness enthusiasts for decades. In recent years Pilates worked itself into the mainstream, the direct result of an intellectual property lawsuit in which a US federal court ruled the term “Pilates†generic and free for unrestricted use. Search engine results are now in the millions as numerous organizations have entered the market to capitalize on the latest fitness trend and individuals across the globe look to benefit from Joseph Pilates’ unique approach to health and fitness. As a result, consumers now face extensive and conflicting information about what Pilates is, how it works, and what credentials they should seek in an instructor.
