Pilates Method Alliance

The PMA is critical to uplifting the professional image of Pilates teachers. The professional association creates a community within which we can network, collaborate, discuss important issues, and shape the future of our industry. The PMA certification is the only accredited Pilates certification in existence and sets a minimum standard of 450 hours of comprehensive training regardless of which teacher training program one attended. I think the PMA certification does 3 important things: 1) Ensures that my Pilates teacher is comprehensively trained rather than mat-only or reformer-only trained. 2) Ensures that my Pilates teacher spent more than a weekend being taught, studying, and practicing this complex and powerful method. 3) Keeps the teacher training schools accountable to how the Pilates method is taught, delivered by their teachers and thereby propagated to the public. Medical and law schools do not license our doctors and lawyers. Why should teacher training schools be the authority who certifies our Pilates teachers? I believe that the PMA makes a significant difference in the results Pilates clients experience. And as this young organization matures, this impact will become more and more obvious.

The PMA facilitates the professional standards for our industry, in support of our collective growth and development. There is no other organization in this country, or in the world, doing as much as the PMA to support Pilates teachers and practitioners.
