History of the Meditation Center
Buddha Meditation Center (Mahamevawa) is a Theravada Buddhist monastery situated in Rockville, Maryland, United States. We are located in the suburbs of Rockville away from the busy city life. Established in 2012, the meditation center is inspired by Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist Traditions and the teachings. The meditation center was founded by most Ven. Kiribathgoda Gnanananda Thero Thero who is the head monk and the founder of the Mahamevawa Buddhist Monastery network. We have six branches (California, Florida, New Jersey, New York and Texas) in the United States including the center at Rockville.
Our purpose is to provide a place of practice for Theravada Buddhism, whose shared intention is the realization of Nibbana, freedom from all mental suffering. It is also open to guests and visitors who wish to come and stay in a place where there is the opportunity to develop mindfulness, to explore spiritual teachings, and to contribute to the life of the community.
