At Rising Tide, we offer spiritual training and a wide variety of programs in an interfaith and interspiritual tradition. On any given day, you might find the community enjoying teachings with RTI founder Shahabuddin David Less, Senior Teacher in the Sufi Order International, or participating in a form of celebration of the unity and truth behind all the world’s religions, such as Universal Worship, Zikr (sacred chanting), or Dances of Universal Peace. Many of the offerings of Rising Tide are rooted in the teachings of Universal Sufism brought to the West by Hazrat Inayat Khan in 1910.
In addition, Rising Tide hosts regular yoga classes, women’s meditation groups, cultural events, healing circles, concerts and poetry readings, as well as seminars and retreats with visiting teachers. For a full listing of upcoming events, please check our Calendar and Events pages. We hope to see you soon!
Look at the sun or face the sun, eyes closed, and imagine looking directly into the sun. Can be done sitting or standing. As you breathe in, imagine light coming into the eyes, through the optic nerve and into the brain. As you do this, say silently “Nur†(Arabic for “lightâ€).Important: the light must go through the optic nerve.
Pause two or three seconds between the inhalation and the exhalation to fill the brain with light. As you breathe out, imagine the brain glowing with light. As you do this, say silently “Allah†(Arabic for “God†or “the One.â€) Make the out-breath twice as long as the in-breath.This practice is best done in the morning to fill the darkened mind. Concentrate the light in the brain; don’t let it wander into the body. This compensates for our darkened minds.
