Mary McGuire Mary McGuire When I experienced my first Juice Fast over 10 years ago, with the amazing, Alison Shore Gaines at Kripalu Center, it was one of the most powerful yogic experiences of my life which, just like the birth of my children, changed how I lived in this world forever. I knew I would make this practice a regular part of my ongoing studies and practice of yoga, and continued to return to cleansing annually or bi-annually as way to return to myself and connect more consciously to the world around me.
With young children at home and very busy life in New York City, I found that doing an annual cleanse on my own was, while possible, not even close to the benefits I received from going away on retreat to do my purification practices. I found that getting away from not only the habitual ways of food and eating but even more importantly, the habitual sounds, language, and demands of children and life caring for a family -and getting the support of Alison and her team, was a huge part of what I needed to restore myself. I realized that it was the group support and the separation from my habitual environment that really brought me the spaciousness and clarity and self knowing possible.
