Tara Mahayana Buddhist Center is now “Kadampa Meditation Center Arizona.†A Kadampa Meditation Center (KMC) is a special Kadampa Dharma Center that serves the local, national, and international communities.
Besides offering a full program of courses to the local community, KMCs host major gatherings such as Dharma Celebrations. KMCs are also home to the International Kadampa Temples, special buildings dedicated to world peace. KMCs are non-profit organizations and all their annual profits are donated to the International Temples Project.
Kadampa Meditation Center Arizona was founded as Tara Mahayana Buddhist Center in 2002 by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso and offers Buddhist meditation classes and retreats in Tucson and the surrounding areas. The classes are accessible, practical, and open to everyone. KMC Arizona offers a path of wisdom and compassion to help anyone find a happy, meaningful life through explanation and practice of Kadampa Buddhism. The Center is a non-profit 501(c3) organization run by volunteers.
Group meditations give us an opportunity to come together in prayer and to make praises and requests to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. Using ancient prayers, which have been translated into English, we receive the blessings, protection and guidance of the holy beings. We can make requests for ourselves or for others who need help or protection. These spiritual practices create a strong connection with the Buddhas, help us to purify our negativity, and fill our mind with positive, healing energy.
Most of these meditations are free and open to everyone. You may sit either on a chair or a cushion on the floor, both of which are provided by the center. Please see the list below of chanted meditations held at the center and our calendar for times. Click on the links below for more information concerning each specific puja.
