LifeWorks Pilates is run by Alison Lucas and her team of qualified and experienced instructors from her purpose built studio set in a relaxing garden environment in Lennox Head between Ballina and Byron Bay. The team at Lifeworks Pilates is dedicated to ensuring that each member of the small classes receive individual care and attention. Specific classes such as beginner, pregnancy, men only, and seniors are avaialable as well as different levels of general pilates. The Pilates method was developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. Joseph was born in 1880 in Germany and was an accomplished gymnast, diver and skier. He was always interested in developing a strong, fit and able body. Joseph moved to England and during WW1 was interned in a prison camp. It was during this time that he developed a series of exercises as a rehabilitation program for prisoners of war. After the war, Joseph moved briefly back to Germany before moving permanently to New York. In New York, Joseph trained a number of students and became involved with various ballet schools and dance studios. Pilates has been used for fitness and rehabilitation since then. It is an exercise program for everyone whether you are a complete beginner, athlete, dancer or someone recovering from injury.
