Arya Vaidya Nilayam (AVN) was founded in 1930 by renowned Ayurvedic Physician Arya Vaidyan N. Rama Varier, who was a disciple of Vaidya Ratnam P.S. Varier of Kottakkal. After Dr Rama Varier, his son-in-law Dr P.V. Raghava Varier became the Chief Physician of the clinic and he heads the organization as the Chairman.
In 1980, when the firm celebrated the Golden Jubilee, AVN established a manufacturing facility to produce Ayurvedic medicines. A small Nursing Home and Research Centre were also added in the Madurai site.

Thaila Dhara with an Ayurvedic oil massage is a complete relaxation programme for the body and mind together.
This treatment aims to provide optimum rejuvenation to eyes. Dough of Urad (black gram) is put around the eye ball in such a way that a dam like appearance is seen. Then herbal healing ghee (clarified butter oil) is put in this groove to lubricate eye and surrounding areas which will be kept warm for 30 – 35 minutes. This provides improved vision with beautiful eyes and strengthening of eye tissues.
Retaining of medicated oil for a period of time over the head is known as ‘sirovasti’.A leather cap is fixed over the head with black gram past and specific medicated oil will be poured and retained for specific period (30mts-45mts).
