Aims and objectives of Ayurveda have been divided into two aspects namely:
The main objective of Ayurveda is to help a healthy person to maintain good health and the diseased person to regain good health. The practice of Ayurveda is designed to promote human happiness at physical, mental and spiritual level. By the proper balance of all vital energies in the body, the processes of physical deterioration and disease can be reduced. This is accomplished through proper eating, thinking and living habits as well as the use of herbal remedies to treat illness.
According to Ayurveda, life expectancy for a human being is about 100 years. We have the right to spend these years in good health and in full possession of all our mental faculties. But today due to global warming, day-to-day exposure to toxins, stress, etc, there is flow of negative energy in the body leading to imbalance in the bio-regulating principles (Doshas) and various ailments as a result.
Achieving optimal health and balance today is more significant than ever before and is one of the important goals of one’s life. Ayurveda has given us the means to reach this goal of life through its holistic approach. Ayurveda emphasizes on many fundamental principles of health such as knowledge of individual temperament and constitution, daily routine, seasonal routine, dietetic hygiene, eating habits, incompatible food products, properties of various food products, etc. Ayurveda asserts that building a healthy metabolic system, attaining good digestion and proper excretion lead to vitality.
