On behalf of Sthalam 8 Ashtanga Yoga Vedanta Center we welcome you to our website and appreciate your interest.
Our Shala was thoughtfully created as a small Ashram where students can study and practice Yoga as a journey with great teachings towards the Soul. Our priority is to help students develop a dedicated Mental, Physical and Spiritual practice. Ultimately leading to a sense of Freedom – Peace of Mind and Body. We encourage students who wish to study with us, to go through the website very carefully before making any bookings or any email enquiries.
We live in an instant world, becoming used to instant gratification getting what we want easily. With many distractions we can lose focus. It can seem easier to give up and move on to something new if it doesn’t work on the first try. Here in our Shala, we want to remain living fully in the present. Respecting things take time we work step by step with our students, applying and teaching dedication. Although the learning process takes time when you apply sincere effort spiritually, mentally and physically your reward will be far greater than if you apply little effort for an instant result. That is the beauty of the practice and something we hope to share with you.
We are very committed to sharing a traditional teaching system which requires discipline, effort, and consciousness during the learning process with the teacher. We adopt an ancient approach respecting the traditional teaching method of Yoga. Students applications are accepted by the ancient theory of Anubhandha Chtushtaya. Meaning that whilst the student will choose his or her teacher, the teacher must also choose their students. Each individual has a different wavelength to match with their teachers. The teacher needs to connect and feel the student before the class in order to realize if there is a wavelength to match with the student. Some students will be accepted and received in our shala and some will not have the same fortune. We ask not to have hard feelings or take it personally.
Studying yoga and Vedanta is unique in India. Students should have a keen interest, dedication and faith. This method is called Traditional Indian Rhetorical Mode, in Sanskrit is named, anubandhacatu½¿ayam, which is based in four fundamental aspects of thoughts and working actions.
1. Vishaya (Subject Matter) – Object of knowledge. Here Yoga & and Vedanta are the subjects to learn. Ashtanga Yoga practice is not only physical but also mental and spiritual.
2. Adhikari (The Qualified Student) – Selected Students of Yoga & Vedanta must have dedication, keen interest & faith towards teacher and subject. A student with keen interest should be ready to face the toughness of knowledge.
3. Prayojanam (The Purpose or the Result) – Attainment of happiness and avoidance of sorrow are the basic results. Social, physical, mental and spiritual health are obtained by study Yoga & Vedanta.
4. Sambandha (Relationship) – Connection of the said three aspects- subject, qualified student & result. A student should have good & respectable relationship with the teachers. Teacher’s sacrifice can make miracles in a student’s life. In the same way students hard work can bring magical changes.
